water level

Recommended Posts

ive been experimenting for the past couple days on different water levels based on the base size, where the stem ends, (if any) number of ice cubes etc... and have obtained mix results. My goal is a nice clean, yet thick cloud. suggestions?

~bare minimum (water comes right to the tip of stem still bubbles...)
~medium (stem in somewhat mostly submerged)
~moses (stem is engulfed with about 4-5 inches of smoke clearence before the suction)

or other ideas? any sugg. would be extremely appreciated.
the entire hookah is about 38in w/o coals

I have found that water level varies for each hookah. I get the thickest smoke when the draw has just a little bit of tug too it. If the water level is too low, the draw is weak and my smoke is thin. Too high and it's just a pain in the ass to smoke. I say experiment and find your own sweet spot for the water level and hookah, and just remember it for future smokes. I personally would err on the high side of water level.

so is the question really how much water, or rather how much airspace should be left?
I'm sure some stems go deeper than others, so there is a decent amount of airspace if it is only filled an inch above the bottom of the stem.

So do we want more or less airspace?

QUOTE (Scheetz)
well more airspace means more smoke.

More Volume = More Smoke
Less Water    = More Volume
Less Water    = More Smoke
More Smoke  = Me happier

simple=better for the tired
haha
except what i was asking was how less is too less, obviously you want a bubble but if thats all you get is that horrible?

btw asus i gotta say your avy is sick, great picture.

well basically you want to keep the stem submerged while you are pulling. So if the water is bubbling and the water level drops below the stem its no good. You want to find the sweet spot where it is just low enough to keep a nice pull and thick smoke. Each base will change, as each will need a different water level.

heres a thought...does the total smoke area availaible a variable when it comes to trying to achieve a "buzz"?
im guessing if theres less smoke area then the smoke will be more condensed...therefore higher buzz...

your thoughts?

I don't have a picture but I can give you a lil advice because I have a 22" mya..

The down stem is the silver tube that is submerged in the water. The water level varies depending on the hookah but yes it should be submerged between about 1/2"-1" for the most part.

Scheetz gives a good explaination, although with some of the taller hookahs I find a little more water actually gives you a better smoke becuase there is less oxygen in the base and the smoke is thicker

Try different water levels and see what works best for you..
