height doesnt really do anything. It puts a bit of distance so it will help cool the smoke, but your not going to notice it. The phunnel works great. It doesnt seem like it should work at all but it does. I highly recommend it. They make a smaller version that holds about 20-30 grams instead of the medium which holds more.

dont be surprised when you open the package, you gonna be like holy sh*t that thing is huge. also to answer a previous question the tallness of the bowl really help when picking up the bowl, the stem of the bowl never gets hot so when you have to blow it out you dont have to worry about burning your fingers
