Middle easter theme party suggestions

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the blank post.

We are planning on having a party with a middle eastern theme in a week
or two with a couple hookahs and some middle eastern music. Do you guys
have any good recipes or tips? Now lets see if I can get a belly
dancer/stripper

Check the music thread, get some songs, burn some CDs.

I got a great double CD called BEDOUIN CAFE.
Great for hookah but not old school traditional, it has chill/trance mixes in a middle eastern vein.

Get some throw pillows from Target to have on your floor.

Look up some recipes. Cook for your friends.

Serve tea and guava and mango juice.
Dilute those juices with half water, they're thick!

Look online for good recipes.

Also experiment with those spice mixes for meats that come in small orange boxes.

DO NOT get canned baba gannouj or canned hummus!!
Get a box and mix your own. Add tahini and a little spice to hummus.
I like the Sadaf brand spicy hummus in a box.
Don't forget the Arabic Bread brand of pita bread. It's not a true
pita, but it's the flat  bread you want to serve. 70 cents a bag.
Cut it into 8th's like a pizza for your guests.
Make a pile of bread pieces on a plate for the hummus and baba gannouj.
Any recipes you make, make them successfully for yourself FIRST so
you're not experimenting with your guests.......(That one from the DUH
Department.)

Thank's you are the man. I really appreciate the tips.

It looks like we will be doing it mardi gras week end since they are
cracking down in the neighboring town of San Luis Obispo(CA) because of
last years riots. Lots of cops and triple fines in that city so we
should have a good amount of people. A friend of a friend is also
bringing 2 more multi-hose hookahs. Any from the board is welcom if
they are local.

Canned baba gannouj will make you barf haha.
In fact it already LOOKS like vomit!

Oh yeah the little spice boxes are really common in ethnic markets and
they're a brand called SHAN. They make TONS of different mixes and a
good store will have LOTS on the shelves.
Read the box you're interested in to see what else you need for the
successful recipe because not all are complete ingredients in the box!

Another key to a successful hookah party is good flavors!
I had the AF GS Eskandrani mixed with Fumari guava and so many people
at my friend's NYC party said WOW that people came pouring in to see
what the fuss was about!

You could make hommos, baba gonough, chicken kabab, lamb
kababas.falafels, spiced rice. If it were me I would grill up a bunch
of cubes of lamb, chicken and beef and vegetables and let people make
there own kebabs less work for you and more fun for them.Set it up with
sauces like tahini and yogurt sauce. You could also setup a falafel bar
with all the traditional fillings that go in a falafel along with
pitas. Then for dessert you could have baklava and babousa. For drinks
goto the store and buy an assortment of teas.Traditional middle eastern
teas are usually like cinammon tea and anise tea sometimes mint tea.
Good luck man let us know how it goes!
