supachink
My apartment is beginning to smell due to somking hookahs and ciggerattes, I was wondering if anyone has an ionic breeze or the Oreck Xl or any of those air purfiers and what are your opinions on them and how well do they work. Any input would be great.
NERV
i would have to reccomend some good old fashioned air freshner and maybe one of those air filters, but not an ionic breeze or anytihng similar, i havent heard good reviews form real people, most people say its completely ineffective or makes it worse, (one person bought one to deal with the mold smell, and it actually made the mold grow faster) plus the air that comes thru them smells metallic

NERV
ive never heard of the oreck one, but as for the sharper image one, it has generally been my way to not trust products sold with infomercials. that said, not all informercial products are bad, ie tempurpedic, but id be very wary and try to get opinions of people in person, online reviews arent reliable either since the info cud be planted, and i dont trust consumer reports because i tihnk whatever company gives em the most money has the 'best' product

piperdown
We have an ionic breeze quadra - seems to work well. The metallic smell is the ionization and/or ozone working - it's a good thing. Two smokers in the house and it keeps up with it ok.
Jon12
I have a large hepa style filter which was a very good unit when I bought it but It doesn't work well for smoke. I've never had a chance to try the metal ionic filter systems but those seem to be the best choice for the removal of smoke. Cigar smokers always recommend an ionic breeze style system or any system with ozone. A unit with ozone is far superior to those with out, it creates an ozone in your room to actively fight odors and bacteria. Be careful with the ozone systems because too much ozone can be harmful
supachink
Yeah, im looking in to the ionic breeze, but they are so damn expensive... and i heard that they begin to degrade and malfunction after a while
Mathazar
All the guys who work down at the local cigar shop ALL highly-reccommend the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze. They say that when they smoke cigars at night, the next morning the room smells fresh. It's supposed to be a REAL powerhouse for the elimination of smoke. And one of the guys uses the Car Ionic Breeze, and he says it does a wonderful job of eliminating cigar odor in the car. I guess you just plug it into your lighter. I've also been looking into air purifiers, but my search has taken me to this company: www.iqair.com They have a number of high-quality air purifiers that you can buy online, but they do tend to be a bit expensive. karkid
my parents bought me a ionic thing like that when i was younger and had allergy problems, it basically kept allergens out of the air by giving them a negative charge, which would make them fall, so you had to dust a lot it works well, if you smell like a bar it'll take care of that, but the one we bought was several hundred dollars so i can't speak for those ones you speak of
