JoeLipinski
Well I would recommend the quick lite Japaneses coals from a site like mnhookah.com (call them) or hookahcompany.com or hookahkings. I love them. I also use natural coals, available from most hookah sites.

Scheetz
what is everyone doing to have a taste from the quicklights?? I have never had a coal taste. Are you guys waiting till the coal is completely cooked before putting it on the bowl and pulling? I can honestly say, that I have never had a coal taste. Ever. And I only use quicklights. I just bought some nours but am still a huge fan of 3 kings.
xpimpitox
i have a bag of nour fingers and i can never get them goin ok. they taste like ass as far as i have used em. the best is always lazarri mesquite charcoals but they take too long to get ready so i rarely use em

But I use a stove to light my coals so I will make sure its extra hot and burning red. I actually leave my quick lights on long enough that they light on fire. Thats when I know its ready. cypherkk
I would try the "natural" coals I've seen online. Or you can try fingers, long circular coals that have to be broken up. Whatever you do, do not get any circular quicklites. It will be the death of your floor or carpet. lol

Doesnt matter what you are using, it will happen. I have done it twice now. First aparment I took carpet from another room and made it blend and got away scot free. Second time, I have a run thrown down and it landed on that. So all is good. My damn fan made it blow off.
ASUSEAN1
i agree with scheetz: 3 kings never gives a wierd taste. make sure the coal is completly lit: there is no black shit left, thats the sulfur that you are probably inhaling becuause you dont do this. The naturals taste like burning wood unless you get them fully lit too. Put the naturals on a stove. As far as the quicklights, I use a mini torch
Scheetz
^^^ with that. Also, make sure the bottom is thoroughly cooked and red. Because if its still partially black it will leave a taste in the beginning as you smoke. This may be what is happening to you. I always remove the coals at the hookah lounges when they are dropped off to make sure it is thoroughly cooked through. I hate ruining a bowl because it was only partially lit and it pulled some of the crap into the bowl.

PK
Definately make sure the quicklite is white/grey before throwing it on your bowl and pulling. I don't have issues with 3 Kings either, never tasted anything as long as you wait a few. I've tried Golden's and Nakhla quicklites as well. Damn Nakhla quicklites are the fastest lighting charcoals I've ever seen. I ordered a few boxes of 3 Kings just to have around for convenience, but my new favorite are the Canary Japanese. Yes they're a little expensive but they work real well, no taste, piece of cake to light, ash well..... can't beat em except for the price but I've been hearing that the Japanese Easy Lite knockoffs are just as good and half the price. I'll be giving those a go next time around to compare. Never tried naturals but will be shortly.
Uber Cool
never tasted anything using 3 kings. i just make sure to blow on em til all the black coat's gone & it's red hott. never tried japanese coals though. if they're tasteless & burn slower/longer than quiklights, I'll have to try it. i just luv the ease of 3 kings & the fact that they don't crumble like other brands i've tried. Joseph
I have only had quicklights explode if I squeeze them to hard. If you have a stove, nour finger coals are the best, and if you only have a lighter 3 kings and golden quicklights are equally good.
