New Turkish store nearby

Recommended Posts

A turkish store just opened up near me, which is exremly exciting, since getting shisha and such has normaly been a little bit of a hassle, so it has reduced the time I actually use my hookah.

I was wondering a few things

1. Do most hookah parts come in set sizes, because I have a hookah which I am now positive has a LEAD stem, which i obviously dont want to use, would it be possible to buy a replacement at the store, that would most likly fit, and do you think i could bring it in to show them my hookah to get the size

2. They have nakhla, which ive tried, but the also have el basha and al waha which i have not, are they good, and if so, what flavors are the best

And to add, this store has fantastic prices on everything, and everything seems to be entirley authentic im so excited biggrin.gif

Al Waha After Nine !!! WOOOO
Nice to see you got a new shop to throw away your cash at tongue.gif
I'd think that changing a stem would be complicated business... at least on my hookah. Does it look like you can somehow detach it and weld another one in place?

I believe Al Waha is a brand you should trust , just hop on to the reviews section and note down the flavours people are craving about ( After Nine , Orange Cream)

why in gods name would you think its lead?

i have two of them, and the sure as hell are not lead (the identical model) I bought one in Ben yehuda Jerusalem. The other in Jaffa flea markets. THats a 'black chrome' finish. It sure as hell aint lead.

They're solid metal of some sort, but not lead. I know this, coz one of mine had funky shavings left inside it, and it wasnt lead.

Well don't know bout the lead part of it, but Al Waha is one of my all time favorite brands. Granted Starbuzz is my current favorite, but no matter what, my all time favorite, that i always fall back on, is al waha biggrin.gif Some of the flavours i love:

Orange Cream
After Nine
Bounty
Winter Flower
Orange
Mint
Cola

Flavours that are good:

Rose
Strawberry
Melon
Apricot
Grape
Coffe
Banna Split

Hope this helps biggrin.gif

thats exactly where i bought mine, ben yehuda, the shop in the corner? have u ever seen the guys breakdance there its sick, i think like every thursday or tuesday. But anyway, its a soft metal, i can make marks in it with a screw driver, without that much presssure, and i also had those strange shavings glued on the inside, i ripped those out, and i only meant the outside of the stem was lead, a freind of mine bought the same one, and it was a while ago, but it seemed to have more of a smooth chrome finish as opposed to ours. how do you know its this "black chrome" the inside im sure is brass or something similar

Lead huh? I'll beleive it. I've seen two hookahs made of lead, and more than a few made from aluminum of all things. Companies do that damndest things I guess. On that note, I totally reccomend the After Nine like pretty much everyone else on here!

Lead Hookahs?

I dunno guys... alloys that are predominately lead strike me as being way too soft of a metal to serve as a hookah. Think about it, if it were lead, then it would easily scrape or becopme malformed like fishing weights or airgun pellets

If your hookah were made of lead, it could be fairly easy to bend it with your hands. or dent it in with a strike from broomhandle or the like. You would be able to gouge it with your keys.

Chances are that your hookah is made of a bronze. There are different types of bronzes... theres copper based and aluminum based. Even a silicon based.

Copper bronzes weigh more than steel..... so its easy to consider lead judging by weight, as lead is a very heavy metal.

But, then I dont have the thing sitting in front of me either.

cmon....I need to know whether or not im smoking lead, i love hookah, and id like to know if i need a new one or something

You can buy lead tests over the internet (likely in stores too).
Google brought up a lead test kit for 12.99

Also, El Basha Jasmine smells very good (its in my stash box, but I havn't tried it yet).

if you can dig your fingernail into the stem, then its probably lead. If not, probably not. If you're unsatisfied see if it will yield to a car key. Lead is VERY VERY soft. and very very heavy. I cannot fathom that any company would make it with lead... some hookahs use lead-silver solder in their manufacture, but thats a much different story... i think....

Anyways, if you are smoking with a lead stem, thats bad news. Get a new hookah, anyways, you'll feel better about it.

Lead poisoning does not happen as soon as you touch it. It is filtered through your body and expelled. An adult is all but immune to lead poisoning do to the ammount needed for the body to build up before it gets dangerous. I've heard of no cases of lead poisoning in adults who didn't have a uremoveable lead bullet, and then it took decades to s how effects.

Its mostly only harmfull to small children who's immunes systems probably aren't as strong as an adults and who build up a proportionally higher amount in a smaller volume.

I've worked with lead models for most of my life. Though the changed to pewter about 1995. I've had many that were produced before them and I still handle regularly, More or less. LOL

BTW. Pewter, the common replacement for lead is much, much more dangerous. It just hasn't recieved the attention yet.
