two quick questions

1. Yeah you can make one from thin steel.
Don't use any other metal except stainless steel.
Drill the holes, don't punch. File and sand rough edges. Holes should be clean
and about 1/8 inch wide and in a symmetrical pattern. NOT TOO MANY!
You might have seen the "turtle" type ones on other websites.
Don't pay any more than a few dollars for one. Some places are selling them
for $5 and that's just WRONG. The margin on these is HUGE.
If you don't want to go through the hassle of making your own, buy some.
Otherwise be sure to make one with an inch tab so you can lift it off the bowl.
I use both foil or screen depending on what kind of smoke I want.

2. I suppose you could make one from a large screen shaped like a sack and then
wired to the bottom of the stem........
