bobganoosh
Hi everyone... I'm new to the hookah world (and this forum) and have a question regarding the MYA Star (58cm) I recently purchased:After some time has passed between taking drags, the smoke in the chamber gets stale and tastes nasty, and I've heard you're supposed to blow through the hose in order to clear it out. With my hookah, the little ball bearing is supposed to lift up to allow the smoke to escape (which it does) and then retract to cover the hole. But sometimes it gets doesn't retract because it gets stuck in the cap and then I end up taking a drag of unfiltered smoke, which again is also nasty.Am I doing something wrong here or does this happen to all these types of hookahs? Right now, I end up having to tap or flick the release valve to knock the ball bearing back over the hole. Is there a surefire way to clear the chamber/hose of stale smoke without the ball bearing falling out into the smoke-release-chamber-cap-thingy (sorry for the lack of terminology).Any ideas would be amazing... so thanks in advance. yashman19
This happens occasionally with my Stargate hookah. I will clear the smoke, the ball will get stuck in the cap and when I try to puff like normal, the smoke is very thin because outside air is allowed to enter the hookah through the purge valve.BUT, if I give the hose a real quick, hard pull, 99% of the time the ball will pop back into the hole. My friends most of the time don't notice it, and I have to tell them to give it a nice hard pull.Give that a shot and see if it helps. If not, I guess you'll have to live with it, or atleast try and find different size ball bearings that will fit in your purge valve.
creeper
Make sure that the ball bearing is clean and also make sure the slot is clean of any residue then blow away
Erica
I am guessing this a new hookah?I have a fairly new hookah that is only used occasionally... and it is a Mya..it does the same exact thing....I sort of think its from being new... and there is no gunk to keep the ball in.... So I don’t think cleaning will help…We you clear the chamber try not to blow super hard, just blow hard enough to get the smoke out but not to pop out the ball. My friends learned the ways of my hookah already… hahaha
mushrat
I've gotten into the habbit of tapping my valve with the hose tip before blowing, having shot a bunch of water up through my qt once.
Lukasa
this is a side question, but related to the ball bearing in the MYA qt... i am having trouble opening the compartment on the valve to get to the ball bearing, any tips?

The best thing you can do is to replace that valve if its old, but thats too expensive and too much of a hassle. You need to give your balls a serious rinsing! and the valve, use pipe cleaners, and make sure there is no grime or substance on the valve or ball, this will casue it to get stuck in place out of the hole. One thing i did a while ago because i was pissed off with the ball altogether was just seal up that valve altogether, and use it as a 1 hose. When i needed to purge the base (which if you manage your heat appropriately you wont have to worry about) i just unscrewed the whole valve. Otherwise use yahses technique he knows what hes talkin about.

mushrat
luksa: if you have a pair of pliars, you may have to unscrew the entire check valve assemply and then use 2 pliars to seperate the parts. careful not to ding the threads,

Erica
They have three parts altogether....You have the part of the stem, that has two holes in it *one for the hose adapter and one for the purge valve. There is a little screw that goes in and lets the round part of the purge valve connect to the main part. hahah that probably amde no sence.. lOLGranted that is not exactly what I am talking about but you can see the hole that is in the stem... the little screw looks almost like that but without the top cap on it and longer. You screw the little peice into the hookah and then place the ball bearing on the screw, then thread on the top capping of the purge valve..haha that still probably made ne sence...*walks away*

Should keep it from sticking.
Erica
hahah I think you guys have it backwards......The ball is getting stuck outside of the hole.. not stuck in the hole..Unless wd-40 is going to make the ball stick more.. that doesnt make much sence. The ball gets stuck in the Round part of the air valve... I dont really think there is a way to fix that..
