wutang_06
OK so I was bored an staring at an empty Brandy bottle and decided to make a hookah.Bowl was bought cheap.Copper pipe with T junction just below bowl.Plastic tubing feeds through T then into bottle then twists above the water. Then a little duct tape for sealing. Not sure about using the copper pipe though...is that dangerous?Let me know what you think

The Cameron
is it dangerous? i believe that a better question would be: what isnt dangerous now-a-days?sorry, had to throw it in, but seriously, i think the copper might be a bad idea, abd i could forsee it having some negative effects, but im no expert. ShishaFred
I think dangerous materials would be Plastic - No one like to inhale melted plastic goodness Lead - Pretty dangerous for us human.Couple of other stuff . I think copper should be fine... I mean .. what's the worst thing that could happen?
Lukasa
I wouldn't use copper. Hookah manufacturers usually stick to steel, brass, and aluminum. which are pretty unreactive metals, barring their contact with corrosive chemicals (strong acids and bases). Copper on the other hand... i dunno. If you smoke out of that, i would expect that theres a 90% chance that you have no acute bad effects from it, but in the long run, who knows. Also, make sure that none of that duct tape is going to melt, or even heat up. Inhaling vapors from the adhesive used in the tape would be bad news.if you seriously want to make that thing into a hookah, get some aluminum pipe, a few sizes of rubber grommets (plumbing supply stores) and go to work on a design that omits as much duct tape and copper pipe as possible. Its a cool idea though, thats a neat looking bottle.
fewwdragon
Doesn't copper turn green. I don't want to smoke things that goes from brown to green. Only things that go from green to brown.

richshisha
QUOTE (Zerodynamic @ Dec 27 2006, 06:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>the copper should be fine.. i mean sheeeiittt.. have you ever looked at your water heater? copper is not okay to smoke out of because when heated copper will emit fumes that are bad for you, but if it doesnt get hot youre okay. QdMaster
Not sure if it's true or not but I have been told that a copper pipe will give you lockjaw
elynnbert
that's an inventive idea. you could use some type of rubber?? i don't know anything really though. don't you get lock jaw from rusty metal?
Whiteshadow
so what if you preheated the copper? technically wouldn't all the bad elements it puts off when heated be released?
The fabulous Ian
The copper pipe's not cool, it's way-toxic. But, the idea is beautiful. I've got a huge Grand Marnier bottle aching to be used for something and this looks like a great end to put it to. nuschultz
Copper isn't good for smoking. You might as well put a kingston on top of your pipe.

jordanneff
Ummm, not on the topic of copper, but the stem... you said you just used a t intersection pipe... so, how exactly does the smoke from the shisha pass through the water and not go directly into the hose? Just a bit confused hahaEDIT: Okay nevermind, after closer inspection I see that the tubing goes into the jar above where the water level would be, though, wouldn't that restrict airflow of the smoke coming through the copper pipe? Seems like it'd be a heavy drag Edited April 11, 2007 by jordanneff
