onehalfasia
QUOTE (Lukasa @ Dec 16 2006, 01:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah. Acclimate it where you intend to smoke it.Well, thanks for your idea. So it'll help to let it sit in the cold garage before i smoke. Its gonna get hot quick, so why let it cool/breath first? I've never acclimated before and its always been good besides pear...not sure why. okbye
fizzgig
Some people acclimate and some don't. I find it to be more flavorful when I do.
Twang
It is to get it adapted to the humidity more so than the temperature.
onehalfasia
It just seems like a weird idea, like all of the goodness would evaoprate or something? Edited December 16, 2006 by onehalfasia
DizzyGuy
It won't lose it's juiciness unless you let it sit out for days... and yes, you are acclimating it to the humidity, not the temp
xpimpitox
it may sound a little silly (i was wtf for at first) but trust me it maks a difference with tangiers tobacco. i usually smoke outside and i acclimate it in the garage for 2 hours and it is smooth and flavorful to the max. not like its a hard thing 2 do anyways. speakin of i gotta acclimate the melon blend thanks for the reminder! Lukasa
Humidity in your garage will probably be a lot different than the humidity in your house... but if you measured the humidity levels and theyre the same, go ahead and acclimate it in your house. you could acclimate it in china as long as the humidity level is the same. SanguineSolitude
its not really that silly if you think about it. cigars are very susceptible to humidity and do not smoke well when outside of their proper range. pipe tobacco also needs to be at the right humidity(though this tends to be more preference.) therefore it makes sense that other tobacco products would perfeorm best when acclimated.that said, the difference between acclimated and non acclimated shisha(with the exception of tangiers) is miniscule. when not acclimated the only difference will be a slight muting of the flavor and perhaps a tendency to get harsh quickly. if you have the time and wish to acclimate, it may not noticeably change your smoke, but it cant hurt.tangiers definately should be acclimated. the difference is night and day. PeaceinIsrael
I dk, I used to never acclimate my shisha, thought I never needed to, but I am having an experience which tells me otherwise right now. Let me tell you the story..........1. I hear nakhla sweet melon is good2. I go out and buy a 50g of it3. get home, open it, disgusted by smell4. pack a bowl, disgusted by taste (something off bout it, NOT SWEET).5. leave it out.6. get bored like two hours later pack a bowl in my dorm.7. tastes.........good is too generous, tolerable is too mean.I have let it sit out over night. gonna try it after dinner
onehalfasia
Thanks for the advice. I'll let it sit for 4-5 hours before i smoke and let you know how it goes. I'll try pear because last time i tried, it basically tasted like nothing and had a weird gritty/weird smoke.
Glottis
My personal experience is that it depends on the tobacco you are using. I can see why pipe and cigar tobacco would be highly susceptible to humidity changes, but it you think about it, it makes sense. However, hookah tobacco is constantly suspended in a liquid so I wouldn't expect it to be as important for all kinds. For example, Tangiers tobacco desperately needs it, but some of the other brands like Al Amir or Al Fakher don't seem to change at all (again, in my experience). If the stuff tastes not as good as it should, try it, or if you just are curious. Don't be shocked if you can't really tell the difference, though.
