nevermind
the third one with a couple more holes in the empty areas (basically add some topping to that pie)
ioannisds
#1. I have found that if I make a patter like that, with the holes extending just a hair past the edge of my QL, I can plop a coal down in the middle and smoke for nearly an hour without ever touching it again. Maybe once to ash it near the beginning of the smoke.

SanguineSolitude
1 or 3. the other two dont have enough holes. honestly the pattern doesnt matter. just put a good number of holes evenly spaced around the entire bowl. whether you do this by a spiral, lines, or whatever, it doesnt matter. holes serve to allow air through the tobacco. so as long as you have enough to allow air (both hot from where the coal is and cool from where the coal isnt) through the shisha, you should be fine. all this talk of pattern is just superstition. Just like foil shiny up or down. it doesnt matter. find a pattern you like using and go for it. personally i dont have a "favorite" pattern. ive tried all the gimmicky "secret" patterns and as long as theres enough airflow they all work the same. stop overthinking this. Macho555
I just do 1. I've always done 1. If you just put holes EVERYWHERE, then you dont need to worry about your pattern.
