Just Got A Mya Acrylic -needed Help With A Few Questions...

I just got a 23inch MYA Acrylic and all the other shisha I had sent to the US. (I live in the UK and have been waiting about 3 months for a cousin to pick these all up for me)!!! :rolleyes:

I've got a few questions, which I'd appreciate some help with:

1. When it comes to cleaning the acrylic what should I do for this?
2. The vase has a metal screw, wont water rust this?
3. The hose is washable, so does that mean I should let water run through it and leave it to dry, or just let a few drops in? -wont this rust the hose despite it being washable?
4. Should I regularly (i.e. after each use) rinse/soak the stem with water and lemon juice? Again, how should I avoid rusting the stem? Should I dismantle the stem into separate parts before cleaning?
5. I also have 3 hoses now -should I use a different one for different types of flavour (i.e. one for strawberry, blackberry, cherry etc., one for apples, and the other for all other shisha)?

Any other tips/advice appreciated.

I know some of these questions seem trivial/stupid, but I think I might have overcleaned my previous shisha (maybe rusting out the hose and damaging the stem; I want to keep the new one clean, but not end up destroying it!).

If it's an MYA hose you can run all the water you want through it, it shouldn't rust. After you wash it take it outside, grab one and and spin it over your head. The centrifugal will force all of the remaining water out the other end so you won't have to worry about it rusting.

Dismantling it and soaking it in a lemon juice and water mixture isn't a bad idea. Full blown soaking isn't necessary after each use, though. If you wanna soak it after each time it shouldn't do much harm, but after each use isn't a 'must do' type thing. To clean it after every use a nice scrub with a brush and lemon water then a rinse with plain 'ole water will be sufficient. I'm not really familiar with the 'anatomy' of MYAs but if taking it apart when you clean and dry it gives you a more thorough clean, why not?

If you want to, by all means. Seeing as you're hoses are washable flavor mixing shouldn't be much of a problem but some flavors tend to haunt hoses (like certain mint and coffee flavors) so if you want to keep separate hoses for different types of flavors feel free to. Hose cleaning, for me, is about a once-a-week thing; and lemon juice down the stem isn't too bad but like everything else make sure you rinse it out reall well. Then do the whirly thing.

I see -so after my smoke with Al Amir Blackberry, I can just switch to Cherry without doing much else (other than changing the water in the vase and cleaning the tobacco bowl), and then to finish off my session, just rinse the vase, and use the brush followed by a rinse to clean the stem (and leave to dry)?

Sorry for the imbecilic questions, but good practice will ensure the longevity of my my toy!

That may have been my mistake in the past -after each session I washed the hose with water and then wondered why it had a funny taste (maybe also to do with the fact that my previous hose was not washable, resulting in the eventual metallic taste!!!).

I'll just rinse the hose after every 3 sessions (my approx. weekly average), and try to resist doing anything but putting it away without any sort of cleaning (?)after today's use! As long as this is ok, I'll leave you in peace now.

the metal screw should be stainless steel... stainless will not rust.

If the screw is Zinc, then yes that will rust. Replace with stainless.

You don't have to do it everytime.... and no lemon juice... the hose is leather, leather + acid=bad... and you could get a concentrated lemon taste. Running water down the hose with sufficent pressure and whirling will do the job.

Also, like I said eariler... its a mya, so the stem should be stainless... at the worst (provided you emptied the base then sealed it over and over again to make the conditions for rust) you will get surface rust the can be scrubbed off with a brillo pad and/or some CLR.

yea the acrylics are extremely durable. You shoulldnt have a problem with it. And mya backs up broken parts usually if you send them a pic
