Zerodynamic
so, i was thinking on the topic of bases.most smokers leave the stem go into the water about an inch. As I understand it, the more contact the smoke has with the water, the more filtration and the more cooling the smoke has, right? This lead me to my question.. why don't hookah manufactuers make the stems longer, rather than make a bigger base to accomodate for the smoke chamber part of the base? I think that my stem could be 2 to 3 inches longer for better filtration while still giving the base enough air space for big hits...Thoughts? cymptom
To my knowledge, the further the stem is in the water, the harder the draw. What you're saying makes sense, but I think it'd be a much better idea for manufacturers to build diffusers into their stems to improve filtration AND the draw. EvansLight
i think my idea that i was too lazy to ever get around to doing would rock. Why holes or slits? How bout a bit of cheese cloth or something along those lines over the bottom? Think about it, it would give you the smallest holes for the smoke to come out you could get.Granted regular cheese cloth might be too tight, but these lil pyramid tea bags that some green tea came in, are wrapped in this material that has bigger holes than cheese cloth, just too lazy to get around to doing anything with it
The Cameron
eventually i'll get around to trying this, but not right now. im... err... busy...
toocoldimtold
I use a sink aerator on the end of my stem as a diffuser. It fit almost perfectly, but i added some electrical tape on the end of the stem to make it a snug fit. It works well but since i have a junior hookah it makes the stem a little longer then i would like. This is what i'm talking about if your not sure what i meansorry cant get the link right. http://www.cetsolar.com/images/AERATORLRG.jpg Edited December 31, 2006 by toocoldimtold

Sonthert
I have contemplated this idea up and down for awhile. The problem is that the flavor and the nicotine are in the same boat...if you remove one, you remove the other...this can be accomplished by changing thew solubility capacity of the water, namely using hot water. Add carefully! It might shatter your jar. If you want more material to dissolve, then hot water will do that. Not boiling hot, but hot tap water. Scheetz
Ok so I went ahead and smoked 2 bowls with hot tap water. I loved it. To me it did not heat the smoke up and it gave me a great smoking session.
hookaheveryday
If you want a very enjoyable smoke, put Smirnoff in the base. Not the vodka, the chick beer. They come in a lot of good flavors and the smoke i get is VERY white and thick. Thank me later.
Zerodynamic
Hot water? That goes against almost everything I have been thought about hookah smoking. But, if it meets your guys approval, then I am down for it. I see hookah-shisha has a diffuser mod, I am tempted to pick that up as well.

Sonthert
Yeah, hot water does work well. Thats why buzzes and flavors are stronger during the winter...because the ambient temperature is lower, so the stablized ambient temperature of the water is lower so more nicotine and flavor come through. I screwed around with combatting humidity shock by altering the temperature of the water, but its too inexact.
