Mya Hose Rusting

Recommended Posts

Yes, thats right the invincible Mya hose does rust. And yes these are Mya marked ones. I have had 2 so far rust on me and others are showing the signs. One got so bad I was getting a tongue covered in rust. I usually wash them with simple clear hot water and then I hang them un-looped to dry. I dont know how much longer all my hoses have but I think I wont be washing them anymore. I cut the worse of the bunch to see the interior. I have had experience with rusting hoses having used to wash unwashable hoses. The interior of a Mya hose does look like higher quality but the steel does rust. I dont know if maybe this is just coated steel like most arabs seem to think stainless means.

These hoses however have outlasted all my past hoses and the quality is still far superior to anything else I have tried.

Anybody else had the same issues?

well the problem is the metal parts of the hose aren't stainless steel... chanes are its a garden variety zinc and will rust.

Your best bet is to catch the rust right as its happening... when its still surface rust that is. Get some CLR and scrub. It should all come right off. After that, I would use a sealant like a sliversmiths polish for protection. (kinda like waxing a car, you do it for protection) It should all come right off. Don't stop washing your hoses just because, just be more careful about drying water on them.

My friend borrowed my hookah and washed my mya hose for me. When it was returned... the water dripping out was brownish and stinky. At first I thought it was rust but then dismissed it as just some ash or some particle stuck in the hose... but now it makes sense. I think my has rusted as well.

Can you post pics of the rusted hose, if possible? Thanks

Way too much work for hoses that are sold as washable. Its cheaper to get new ones and throw them out yearly at this rate.

Can't post pictures of the one I cut cause It went out with yesterdays trash. The second hose I havent cut and im using it for ornamentation on my 3 head lebanese hookah(useless but beautiful). When I did cut the hose though I remember the wire being shiny with rust spots all over it. I noticed by the red crap I would find on my tongue. These hoses where so good I was all but sure the hookah was to blame... tell when I tried the hose right after cleaning with no hookah attached.

Mya needs to make it clear to people that there hoses are hardly 100% washable and while resistant, arent perfect.

dude thats just straight up lazy. It would take you maybe 10 minutes max and you could use those hoses for several years... but hey, its your money. rolleyes.gif

scarecrow has a point tho....

If theyre sold as washable, why should we expose ourselves to nasty arse chemicals? I wouldnt be smokin from a hose that had been CLR'd....

Thats just askin for ur lungs to be no more..

$10, versus ur lungs... Fark laziness i value my lungs intact.

are you soaking your whole hose in water or something along those lines? I never have a problem with rusting and i just to the mr. bubble method in cleaning.
- run water through
- jump rump method of hitting it against the ground
- run more water through
- dry out

haha, i'm not saying suck on a hose with CLR still on it... i mean you use it like soap, then rinse off. If people use it on their shower head that they bathe with, then I'm certain that if you rinise your hoses after cleaning and let the completely dry, you should be in the clear.

People dont injest the water from there shower head, they wash with it. And anyways with water its a different story then with air. I dont chance my health for a 10$ hose.

Yep now all my other hoses have started. I been letting the water fall into an empty 2 litre and I can see plainly what looks like red dust. I once unknowingly washed an egyptian hose and the result was alot worse then this... chunks of wood, thick rust shards. But as I see it this red rust dust would be alot easier to inhale. I guess this means I need to replace 3 of my hoses. The good thing is that Mya hoses are cheap and these lasted me a year. Unless you treat them in the same way people treat there unwashable hoses that is.
