Let me add my congratulations to you, too. On another note, woot, my first post.

I'm also thinking of opening a hooka lounge. I live in a small-town in central Illinois, and there are absolutely (that I know of) none around. I'd have to drive to Chicago or St. Louis to get to one. Well, right now I'm studying abroad in Murcia, Spain, where I've been introduced to the Hookah and its culture. Things are going amazingly smoothly - I think I might even have a building my friend will rent to me cheap on the downtown square.

I wish you the best of luck, and I'll try and stop on by when I get back stateside if at all possible. If you could, try and post some comments for others wanting to start a lounge up, such as how well your prices worked, etc.

This lounge/band venue is looking very promising. I'm a good friend of Scheetz's and with all I've heard about this place it looks to be a great success. Hopefully they will be able to host some good bands, because I know I'll be up there quite a bit; especially over summer.

35g a bowl wow!!!
the hookah bar near me charges 10 bucks cnd (9ish american) and its a smaller 15g bowl i think with 2 quicklights. no max of hookah per people
quick question are people aloud to smoke cigaretts in there aswell? how about cigars? just thought i should throw that at you incase it didnt cross your mind. cigaretts are 1 thing but cigars are another.

some other idead are maybe open mic night, dicounted tuesdays (or something like that, 2 for 1, etc...) options for mixing flavours, and maybe even have a small hookah shop where you keep maybe 4 extra hookahs that could sell to customers as well as coals, tobacco, and everything else hookah related

it looks very promising, i wish you the best of luck!!!

Sounds like you have all the elements going for you for this to be a successful venture - all the best smile.gif

Also, have you thought about being able to sell hookahs, shisha, etc. in-house (or online, for that matter)? I'm sure if people really liked what you had, they would want to try to imitate it at home.

At any rate, congrats, and I hope I can make a trip out there sometime in the (near) future smile.gif

*edit* oh poo - I didn't read the post before mine thoroughly before I started typing - sorry for being redundant! Edited by looloopoopie

Hey good luck with this man =D You should also have these like... Sorta arabian tent style areas to just sit in and smoke it up

Thanks, right now everything must be movable because of the band venue. But after we make enough revenue we are going to move to a large unit and open a hookah lounge only in another building. Thats when I can take all my ideas and use them.

We have plenty of entertainment covered. Open mic night is one, karaoke is another, as well as looking at covering mixed flavors on top of the ones we are going to offer.

We are iffy on a store right now as the county already is unsure of what to expect from us. So we are going to hold off for now until we are more accepted. Because of this we are also holding off on our outside smoking patio.

sorry, I maybe i missed it but just wondering...is there any reason you are using quick lights? all the hookah lounges i've been too, and even at home I always use fingers (various brands). If you purchase a portable electric stove from walmart ($10) and keep it outside or somewhere in the corner, it only takes about 5 minutes or less to get these fully lit and they are a lot less brittle and just add much more to a genuine hookah experience.

Also, if your planning to use juices remember the effect on the hookahs.
Milk- if you add too much milk, im sure you already know that it will bubble and get into the hose, which means that if you don't get all of it out after the session it will mold and that's a waste of equipment. Similar with juices.
Local hookah bars around so.cal charge anywhere from $3-5 extra for juice/milk in the vase.

Hope that helped you out somewhat!

Good luck!

Thanks, we are not going to add juices as an option. Some of them can be a pain to deal with and will throw off some flavors that I personally enjoy. I think water is the only way to go and having a good drink can compliment your shisha. As far as quicklights over naturals well, I enjoy naturals but they can be pesky. Sometimes they will work great and other times they can go out. With quicklights you know how long they will last and can be lit by the customer when a second is needed. This also gives the customer more control over their experience. But the stove top burners that plug in are great. I use my electric stove in my apartment to light all my coals naturals and quicklights. They instantly light the quicklights and give them a solid burn through within about 45 seconds.

quick lights are definately less maintanence. naturals tend to burn quickly so it is up to the worker to get new coals a lot more. with quicklights you can jus throw in a couple extra in the tray and the customer can light them by themself. I will have to agree with you on using quicklights. I have noticed that a lot of the hookah bars in chicago area use quicklights (except for guess hookah and a few others) but in Arizona (tempe area) almost every hookah bar uses naturals

Hey Scheetz is there any place to park a semi truck around there? I'm not truckin right now due to a injury, but will return to the road soon and it would be nice to add another hookah stop.

Actually yes, our building is connected to a Food Lion so the loading area is right behind us.
This is the only picture I have right now of the back side that shows the loading area. It wraps all the way around the Food Lion. Its large enough to drive a Semi with a trailer in circles without any issues.

if i didnt live on the other side on the continent i'd be there every other night. i find it weird how few hookah bars, where i live anyways, dont serve beer. I'd love to sip a Guinness and smoke some Starbuzz Irish Cream while watchin live music.

+1... its funny how the bay has a lot of lounges, but none of them are as cool as the ones you and mushy plan on opening.

biggrin.gif Thanks for the compliments. We plan exceed the expectations.

hey scheetz, where in SO MA are you located? im in fairfax, VA, so i would definitely be able to swing by and support your biz.

I used to live in Fairfax actually. Then I moved out to Prince William as traffic was getting horrendous. We are going to open in Calvert County MD. You would take 495 to get there. Once I have enough money I want to buy some land out there, skeet shoot every day before I head to work.

I'm in Chantilly when I'm home from school...(fairfax is about as far as I can throw a rock... RT50 is 2 minutes from my house lol) So once you open make sure to post directions and all that I'll surely stop by to listen to F'in live music and smoke some hookah, that sounds completely and utterly amazing in my personal opinion... good luck with it I hope it all works out!
