Ghaleon
How risky is it to smoke a hookah in, say, a non-smoking dorm room? I've done it a couple of times, but i've always had it next to an open window with the fan blowing. Do most smoke detectors pick up hookah smoke? yashman19
I imagine all schools are different, but for my school, our detectors only detect heat. This is a rumor, so just to be safe I cover it with a plastic bag. I might as well just tell you all the things I do when smoking in my dorm room. 1. Cover the smoke detector. Even if it does also detect smoke in addition to heat, the smoke from hookah shouldn't be strong enough to set it off like ciggs or weed. 2. I put a towel in the crack of the door. For a few reasons. A current will suck air from your room out into the hall. If you really want to be stealthy, use that towel and soak it in water first. 3. Leave one of your windows open. If your using the towel in the door, thus stoping all air from escaping from your room, then leaving a window open will let the smoke gradually make its way out. 4. Leave a fan in that open window. I don't smoke with my fan on, because it f**ks up my O's, but if there is an RA or public safety knocking on your door, the fan will clear out the smoke in minutes. 5. If your dorm has carpet, definately use something over the hookah area incase coals get droped. Thats about it for now. If I can think of more tips I will let you know. Hope some of these things help.
NERV
i wouldnt imagine hookah smoke smoke setting it off but i would definitely cover the smoke detecotr or sometihng just incase your tobacco burns and you get the bad smoke which probly would set it off, or if the smoke detectore just does happen to detect it, especially in a dorm, in my friend's school if the smoke alarm goes off for whatever reaosn they have to evacuate the building and it automatically calls the fire department, i tihnk it costs the school $2000 for every false alarm, and if they prove you caused it theyll make you pay it
Zemo
I havn't gotten up enough nerve to try it in my room yet....the fire alarms are linked to a control center that tells them WHICH fire alarm triggered the alarm....if I got caught, that would be a HUGE fine. I've fantasized about a wet rag over the fire alarm, towel under the door, and going at it.....it's still just fantasies.... -Z
cypress
When I did live in the dorms all we had to do is cover the smoke detector with a wet rag and put a wet towel under the door. That should work for you.
