killajakez
The best flavor I ever smoked was AF strawberry. My usual was natural coals with Nakhla peace, apple, and mint. I use instant lights when I dont have naturals. In the past 6 months, I have had some pretty good smokes. Out of 20 smokes, maybe 5 were exceptional, and 2 were hookah bar good. I just can't get that hookah bar taste from my hookah!!! Even when using natural coals. Two weeks ago, I fired up my hookah with a natural light, and sweet melon nakhla. The smoke tasted like sweetened human sweaty nut sack. I am NOT exaggerating. It tasted disgusting, I wanted to puke. I went to sleep. The next day, I re cleaned the stem with a wire cleaner, and washed the hose. Tasted better, but the nasty smell came back. I have some Havana on the way, so hopefully that will be decent. Can anyone help me out here?
Scheetz
possibly humidity shock. Have you allowed it to acclimate. I don't normally acclimate nakhla and the brands along its lines but it can cause a bad smoke. For the smell, try soaking the stem completely in a mix of Lemon Juice and Hot water. Let it soak for a good 30 minutes and then wash it off. I know my stem smells like ass, but it doesn't affect the flavor.

Scarecrow
Well how are you cleaning your parts? Are you using lemon juice? If your using soap remember to rinse alot. With brass hookahs I like to clean them with vinegar. Also take the time to really wash the bowl properly if you have a Mya bowl with the uncoated center, they seem to suck everything in. killajakez
Har Har....lolbunch of wiseasses here i see. Thats good.My hookah is made of steel, would that be safe to soak? I looked through the stem into light, and it looked clean and shiny after i cleaned it with the pipe cleaner. could there still be smell inside? I will clean the glass bowl with vinegar, good call on that, totally forgot about that. It smells clean, but I never gave it a thorough cleaning. But forget my hookah for a second, does anyone have problems achieving that "hookah bar" taste? Especially at good hookah bars with clean hoses. I just can't get that, even when using the identical tobbaco and coal. Could it be the actual hookah? tingjunkie
How fresh is the shisha you are smoking? Bars go through their shisha pretty quick, and it's usually very fresh. Are you moving the coal around enough during the smoke?Have you washed the hose itself? As Scheetz said, it could be humidity shock. You don't store your shisha in the fridge do you? (If so, stop and put it in a safe room temp place away from sunlight.)The only other thing I can think of is that someone dipped their sweaty nut sack in your shisha when you weren't looking.Good luck though. Hope you figure it out. Edited January 3, 2007 by tingjunkie
killajakez
It's fresh. Usually not more than 1-2 months old. Hose is washed with water. (washable plastic hose). I store the shisha in the original wrapper/box in a dry place, room temp. Getting havana tomorrow, will post reviews!
ASUSEAN1
to answer your ?, yes you can soak the stem, i would normally run water through it before using the brush, and then runnin more water through it. soaking it in a lemon juice/water combination is allso a good idea every once in a while
skiracerj1
How about the hose, hoses are, at least in my experience, the number 1 cause of gross flavor, If its not washable it might be time for a new one, especially if there has ever been any, i do mean any (mild steel rusts ridiculously easy) water or liquid in contact with the hose, if its washable run some lemon juice through it and then give it a good hour long soak in warm water and run some more lemon juice through it and then run water through it until it run clear, then blow as much of the moisture out of the hose (I like going outside and spinning the hose around my head really fast) and then let it dry for several hours. like I said the hose can get real disgusting, and can make everything taste like ass. Hope this helps
killajakez
IT WAS THE HOSE!I just came off the plane from Miami where I was on vacation for a week. I cleaned it there, washed the hose, threw some fresh tobacco on it. (read my new nakhla reviews).Smoke was excellent, and then, lo and behold, the ass taste was back. So I used my backup hose that came with the hookah. (that has wooden pieces that you inhale every couple of breaths), and the flavor was good. I went, and soaked the hose in regular water for 24 hours, then blew air through it. Hookah tasted great. Currently I'm also cleaning my base with vinegar...great advice guys!!!
