casey
Hello everyone. Of course I'm new here. I'd first like to thank everyone for all the great info on this forum. I've been doing a lot of reading and have learned a lot. Here's a little info about what I want.- I like smoking hookahs for the flavor not for a buzz (the mo flav the betta)- Oh, and I like smoking hookahs because the huge clouds of smoke look awesome.- I do not smoke cigarettes, pipes, cigars, weed, anything else. Just a hookah when they're around.- I will probably rarely smoke by myself (more in groups of 2-4)- I won't be smoking more than once a week if that much- I've never smoked a hookah with multiple hoses and am perfectly fine with the single. My current thoughts are that I'd like to get a Mya QT and possibly a Phunnel? As far as tobacco, I'm incredibly lost. I've read so much that I think I've confused myself here. So many opinions around here. People seem to love tangiers and as I'd love to support the little guy, the higher nicotine content does not entice me. I assume that sample packs will be recommended, but which ones? Right now I think starbuzz may be the best for me? Or maybe I'm just drawn to it because it has nice packaging (I'm a graphic designer). So here are my final questions:Suggested rig?Suggested tobacco?Suggested coals?Suggested place to order?Anything else I should know before I dive in to the wonderful world of hookah? Thanks so much in advance everyone. I know that there are lots of help me posts on here, but know that I read through the first 5 or so pages of this forum and did several searches on a few pipes and for words such as "noob" Maybe I've done too much reading? Thanks again! Edited January 2, 2007 by casey
EvansLight
I still always suggest a basic egyptian for the first hookah. Mya QT's are awesome, but there not without there flaws, and for the most part basic egyptians are usually perfect smokes, if you get one from the first place. If you still really want one, go for it. But IMHO, SocialSmokeHookah.com has the best basic egyptians you can find. I have 2, a mya qt, and a mya acyrlic, and as much as i love my myas, if i had to choose i would take the SS hookahs. There good reliable and smoke amazingly. As for tobacco, if you want low price, yea Al Almir or Al Fakher is going to be your best bet. You might also look into Layalina. If you want some really good tobacco, i say go for starbuzz. IMO its the best out there, and also has the most flavor and smoke ive ever gotten out of hookah tobacco. As for coals, i love 3 Kings quicklites, there the best to me. Ive used all diffrent types (not all brands, just each type) and i gotta say if i had to choose, i would stick with my 3K, 3k FTW!!Hope that helps, and dont be afraid to ask anymore questions you need to
ghostofdavid
I'd tend to stay away from Al Amir because I think most of their flavors have the same weird chemical taste to them. The huge exception to Al Amir is their blackberry, which is one of my favorites. It smokes forever and tastes amazing. Al Amir is pretty forgiving if you give it too much heat. I'd pick up some of the following flavors, if you LIKE these kinds of flavors:Starbuzz Lemon MintTangiers Kashmir Peach (not finickly to the urban legend of humidity shock )Al Fakher Esk. Apple (what I am smoking right now)Al Amir BlackberryAl Waha After Nine. (Think Choco-Mint).
ASUSEAN1
i'd suggest layalina tobacco if you are looking for just taste and not a buzz. Almost every flavor tastes good!
casey
thanks for all the input guys! much appreciated! For those of you that recommend egyptians over the QT. What's a good egyptian that I could pick up for not too much more than the price of a QT? Or am I looking at a big jump in price?
Scarecrow
A good small egyptian shouldnt be hard to find. I got one in my area for 20 bucks brand new. Ebay isnt a bad place to look, just be mindfull of shipping. Some look cheaply priced but they have shipping to make up for it:http://search.ebay.com/egyptian-hookah_W0Q...sopZ3QQsbrsrtZlOh and dont forget to ditch the egyptian hose as soon as possible. In my experience very few of there hoses are worth a damn. Get a nice Mya Saray hose.

casey
Would something like this: http://hookahkings.com/Medium-Hookah-Packa...68-p-19093.htmlbe a better option than a MYA QT for my first hookah? Or any other hookahs I should look at?

My local arab joint sells those for 40$ Canadian. I swear I should be a seller of pipes.I smoke with the same type pipe as that myself and its an excellent smoker. Just those hoses suck ass. casey
hmm, ok. I've also read good things about the Mya Acrylics. Would those smoke a lot like an egyptian? Or is that considered an egyptian? The hard to break part is really enticing to me.edit - 24" - http://cgi.ebay.com/24-Mya-Saray-Chrome-Ac...1QQcmdZViewItem28" - http://cgi.ebay.com/28-Mya-Saray-Chrome-Ac...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited January 3, 2007 by casey

Blue Lantern
Lots of people like Mya Acrylics, but lots of people would advise against ordering from Genuinehookahs. Long story short, you wont always get what you pay for.
Scarecrow
Mya's suck for beginners because they dont clean so great. Alot of threads and the center tube in alot of them is an aluminum shaft that no hookah cleaning rod can pass. When your playing with flavours its good to be able to clean and an egyptian is just that. Tough I'd never pay what people seem to ask for them on these online stores. NERV
Just thought I'd add that Al-Waha is a good starter brand. Low cost, good flavors, plenty of flavor and thick smoke. I personally don't like Al-Waha because I like a buzz, but I think it might be up your alley.
casey
Ok, I bought it. Just what I posted 2 posts above here. Plus a cleaning kit for $73 total. Good times ahead. The only sucky part is that I have to limit my smoking because I'm a singer. (to top it off I currently have calluses on my vocal chords) Thanks so much for all the help along the way everyone.edit - oh, and a tangiers phunnel from mnhookah!
