DubStyleeCA
I watched closely as i was smoking and the tiny tiny ashes on the foil, even after ashing the coal, would seep from the foil, or OFF of the coal, and go through the holes in the foil... then i assume into the shisha or tobacco.is this ok? i assume there is no escaping it.i know water is the FILTER.... so, are those little guys affecting taste or does the water filter them out completely? Scarecrow
They get stuck to the sticky tobacco, if they by magic dont do that they get caught in the humidity of the center tube, if that doesnt get them then the water most defenetly will. But no filter is 100%, so thats why we use natural charcoal. As for taste I find if too much ash gets in the bowl it dries out the tobacco and you end up smoking flavored ash so its not exactly fantastic. Just push your coal off the side instead of picking it up to clear it off of ash, and dont break up the ash ontop of the bowl. Whatever does end up on the bowl can be pushed off with the tongs. Macho555
I've NEVER noticed ash affecting the taste, but maybe thats just me. I'm fairly certain theres no possible way for the ash to get to your mouth.
DizzyGuy
Doesn't affect it... in fact, I think that it'd be hard NOT to get ash to fall through. And I don't get that natural charcoal statement. What does that have to do with anything? Doesn't natural charcoal ash more?
Scarecrow
QUOTE (DizzyGuy @ Jan 2 2007, 11:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>And I don't get that natural charcoal statement. What does that have to do with anything? Doesn't natural charcoal ash more?I find my natural coals ashl breaks down less into pieces that can make there way into the bowl. Usually the ash is very clumpy, while 3 kings tends to be like powdery ash. Just my experience.
angemonkwj
i've never noticed any difference either. there is no way to escape a little ash gettin in the holes of the foil. it's not gonna kill ya.
DizzyGuy
Worst case, think of it this way... you're gonna burn through the top layers anyways, it won't affect anything. Especially after you have compeletely burned throught he top layer, the ash will just accumulate there.
Blue Lantern
Now, that I think of it... by the design of traditional bowls doesnt most of the ash get trapped in the shisha? However, in a phunnel bowl there's no "filter" so the ash goes through the bowl and straight into the water... isnt that sort of less healthy? Captain Courageous
You can pretty much avoid lose ash falling onto the foil all together more often than not if you are careful. If there is one thing that I am very careful about when I smoke is the ash of the coals. If you ever need to remove a coal or re-arrange the coals you can do so without making them fall apart what so ever most of the time. Just make sure that you never pinch them with the tongs to get them off of the foil. I find it works perfect to place your shallow metal pan right at the edge and beneath the edge of the bowl and gently swiping the coals off into it one at a time and only gently pushing them off the coals nearest edge. Hmm, I hope that is alright wording to explain what I do. If you are ever really conserned about not getting any lose coal ash into the bowl with the shisha that is defenantly the way to do it. It works perfectly about 90% of the time.
HAHkoo
if you don't want ash to even touch your shisha really all you have to do is stop smoking. XD but really no matter what you try ash will pretty much always touch your shisha. unless you don't suck as hard.
Sonthert
Ash doesn't affect anything, I think.
