I Think Im Smoking Fireplace Wood.

Recommended Posts

so i just got my hookah-shisha order in, abyss 2-hose with my standard combo bowl and some shisha. i know, i know, abyss isnt the greatest hookah but i had a coupon where they would send me a free pumpkin hookah with my order and the abyss looked interesting and cost just enough to get the free pumpkin.

i washed the bowl and removable parts, and blew the stem out really well before i set it up, and went through my normal bowl and coal procedure. im getting decently think moke, but i swear on top of the chocolate coconut i packed, it tastes a little like wood. the entire stem from the tray to the heart is encased in wood, but i wouldnt think that could put flavor in the smoke?!?

has anyone else had experience with a wood flavor seeping into their shisha flavor?? any guesses on whether or not this will go away after a couple smokes? i dont know if "fireplace" is a flavor i will enjoy every time....

What kind of coals are you using? Remember what they are made of...

You may have gotten a bad batch of coals or your coals could be adding to to the flavour. It's also possible, since the hookah is new and since the shaft is wood, you could have to break it in some, like a Briar pipe or something. Could be natural smell/taste eminating from the wood itself since its new.

It may be that you need a "break in" time like with a pipe untill the wood no longer is giving off a taste.

This is all just a guess....

im using al aljdad so i know the wood taste isnt coming from there.

must be the shaft. hoping it fades out since the wood taste is slighty stronger than the shisha right now. making good smoke though, and its airtight, so it seems to be working perfectly. Edited by camelflage

Wood shaft...strange.

Hopefully the taste will fade, and you can get a good smoke

I have an abyss, and the shaft is wood surrounding a metal pipe. I have a hunch you are tasting the sawdust from the ends of your hose. I've had a few cheap hoses that tasted like that at first. ON one, I choked on the loose sawdust inside. sad.gif

thanks for the feedback guys, Sariél might be on to something.

i started thinking the same thing late into the smoke, so i switched to the 2nd hose and the wood taste dissipated. also noticed the 2nd hose had a much easier pull than the 1st, so there might even be some blockage in one of them. i can say that the valve system used on the abyss works well, i was getting some really thick smoke after i switched hoses.
