Help! My Hookah Got Here And I Can't Assemble It.

Recommended Posts

So I got my small SS hookah in today and I have two major problems. I can't get the base separated from the stem. Its on there way too tight. I'm afraid of either A) cracking the stem, or cool.gif getting it apart but sending both pieces flying across the room. Also, the coal tray is supposed to "snap on" so say the directions. But for me the are its supposed to slide down onto is just a bit too wide for the hole in the middle of the coal tray. So instead of sliding all the way down it stops near the top and isn't stable at all. Definitely couldn't rest anything on it.

I've emailed social smoke and called them, but when I called I got messages about being closed for thanksgiving. really not happy about that. Edited by casey

The stem attaches super-tight to social smoke hookahs... I usually have to set my hookah on the floor and then I place my feet on the sides of the hookah and then pull the stem upwards. Make sure you grab the heart of the hookah (the part where you connect the hoses). Hope this helps, don't be worried about applying too much force because it is a very tight seal... an example of how tight the seal is, is that I can fill the base up with water, put the stem in, then hold the whole thing from the top of the stem and I don't have to be worried about the base falling. Good luck,

Joe

Ok, I got the thing apart. It doesn't seem like it should be that hard. Now I can't get the stem to go back down in the vase very far. Its just incredibly tight. you'd think they could work it out just a little less tight and still be ok.

Also, I know there is no way I can get that charcoal tray to fit on there. its metal not rubber so there's no give and take. Metal on Metal you know.

I had a similar problem, how I got the stem back in is olive olil. You need the stem to be tight against the base for it to work well. Lube up the grommet between the stem and base and force in. When I got my hookah I was so scared I was gonna break it, but assembling a hookah also requires some force. As for the tray it should snap in place, you'll hear a horrible metal on metal scrapping sound first but after that a snap.

olive oil trick sounds like a good idea as it will probably still be lubed enough after a smoke. As for the tray. Nothin doin. I just sat and pushed about as hard as I could with no luck. That thing does not fit.

I am not sure about the tray. I have the Abyss and the tray fits crazy tight. As a matter of fact I bent it a little once taking it apart.
After breaking a vase once I like my stems to fit tight enough to pick it up by the stem even when filled. Try rubbing a little molasses juice on the vase opening and twist the stem while forcing it down, same method to take apart.
After taking it apart and putting it together a lot it will probably get a lot easier.
Without seeing it that may not be practical. People can only give you advice from their experience.
Since it is Saturday I doubt SS is open. I do know that they have excellent customer service. Hopefully the molasses trick will get you through the weekend. Not sure about a fix for the ashtray unless you have a variable speed Dremel or drill and a sanding cone and carefully shave a little on the hole in the tray.

I'm not saying that is the way it ought to work, it's just what I would try.
