dizzing
I've tried everything from screens, aluminum foil, and hookah foils on top of metal, clay, and glass hookah bowls, and believe I've finally found a technique which should work every single time, for every type of bowl, although I must admit I've only tested it on a glass funnel shaped bowl (egyptian design if I remember correctly) - the kind that [used to/sometimes?] come with Hookah Bros. pipes, not the weed-smoking hollowed ones. Basically, once the bowl is packed (one can actually pack it to above the brim a TINY bit; this is why we came up with the idea, the glass bowl is very very shallow), a charcoal screen as found on every single hookah retailer site is placed on it UPSIDE-DOWN, that is, with the indented part with holes on it facing UPWARDS, above the top of the bowl. /---- <-kinda like that. After this, we place a hookah foil over it, shiny side down, and use that to hold the screen onto the bowl (the metal tabs broke off years ago, this is the same screen we've been using since our first hookah), then we poke through the foil into the holes already on the screen, so the pattern is perfect. This technology has the wonderful advantage of holding the coal slightly above the bowl, so it never actually touches the shisha. There is no danger of this happening either, because the screen reinforces the foil making it extremely sturdy. Using this technique our hookahs last the standard amount of time, very seldom burn (Although it is quite possible depending on the shisha, coal, and exact setup), and look rather stylish (with a funnel bowl, the profile looks just like a wide stylized superman logo). Anyway, just one of our many ideas I thought I'd share with everyone since I've been getting ideas here for a while now.

sucker4hookah
I did not think that someone would have trouble reading my AIM talk, but I will keep that in mind. It's just one of those online habits. By the way, which flavors would you recommend that I purchase from Fumari?
MonkeyBiz
^Much better. I tired this last night, and it really does work well. The tabs on my grate hadn't broken off yet, so it sits just fine on my small and large bowls, and it definitely improved the experience. Thanks for the tip! Jeff_T
From Fumari i've heard the only good smokes are Watermelon and white peach. I know the peach is good because the local hookah lounge here had some and it was delicious. They also had guava a while ago, not sure from where, but probably fumari and it was suprisingly tasty with a good/unique taste. Anywho, i'd go with the white peach and watermelon
ZAP
I tried this twice now and it gives me really bad results for some reason. The smoke just gets really harsh. I think it might have something to do with the white paint on the underside of the screen, or on the top in this case. The smoke was fine after I removed the screen and took out a pinch of tobacco and put foil over the top. I wonder why others seem to have such good results
