Highpockets
I'm wondering what the shelf life on a hose is. I can't put my finger on the point where it turns from beautiful clean smoke, to downright disgusting. There's a spectrum, and sometimes I'll decide to try out a new hose, and am floored at how much better it smokes than the status quo. So how long do you guys keep your hoses? NERV
my old hoses i kept too long, way too long, my new hose tho, which i made, is completely washable and has hardly absorbed any flavor in over a year of use, it an ugly hose, but it pulls like no other, never clogs, and is easy to wash
mikem
Ive been smoking on my non washable hoses for a month, I think it may be time for me to get some new ones. Im going for washable next time.
lickirish
I use black plastic hoses from home depot. I forget the size, but it is in the isle that has all of the plumbing stuff. I bring my grommet that fits into the stem, and then the hose that fits snugly inside the grommet is the winner. I like them because they are a cinch to wash, I just go to the hose outside and run water through it, then I plug one end and fill it with some water and slosh it around. After that I swing the hoses around a lot outside to drive the water out. I love them. I also took a T splitter from that isle, and put a 1 inch chunck of hose on one end, and then 2 hoses on the other sides. Voila! 2 hose and I still have the carb. Does this make sense? If not I might take a picture
NERV
ive tried hoses from home depot, they all seem to have a rubber flavor, the hise i got is actually for marbles, u know those big setups where you run a marble thru a bunch of tracks and hoses

Ghaleon
could you post a pic, lickirish?
lickirish
Here is a picture! This is just a hose from home depot, and I don't notice ANY ruber flavor with this particular one. The bend in the part that connects to the stem is from the weight of the hose, but it gets crammed so far into the stem, that this is not where the seal forms, it's deeper in it. cypress
I guess only one person can puff on it at a time? How good does this design work? Seems like a washable hose is more prectical.
lickirish
Two people can go at once, just like a real two hose stem. You still have to plug it, just like a regular two hoser. This design works excellent, or I wouldn't use it.
NERV
no rubber taste eh? ill have to look into that, you know what material it was made of?
cypress
no rubber taste eh? ill have to look into that, you know what material it was made of?
By looking at the picture it seams that its a plastic hose instead of a rubber hose. The plastic should not give that rubbery taste. If you really want to look good use the two wooden ends of a regular hose and clamp the plastic hose to them. NERV
sounds like an idea, i was originally planning on attaching the hose ends to my plastic tube but it was too big, i was also gonna get some nice cloth at a craft stoor and sew a sleeve
Mathazar
I bought 5 different colored Plethor hoses from Hookah-Hookah.com and they're washable so I doubt I'll ever have to replace them. I've got one hose I use for citrus flavors. One I use for apple, one for hazelnut, one for melon, grape, and other mild flavors, and one for double apple & licorice flavors. Those plethor hoses are a sheer joy to use. They have polished stainless steel mouthpieces and the length is over 6 ft. Good all-around hose. And a real deal at just $10 each. jerryneyk
I use clear plastic hose that you can get at any aquarium store. Very cheap, very neutral, it imparts no taste to the smoke. I bought this after smoking tobacco that I got in Turkey, which was worse than awful you cannot imagine and which ruined my hose. If anyone ever goes to Turkey, by the way, do NOT purchase any of the large boxes of cheap tobacco they sell everywhere without smoking it there on the spot first. Every one of the boxes I got from there was awful and the acrid smoke ruined a beautiful 40 dollar hose. With that warning out of the way, Istanbul rocks! After seeing Midnight Express years ago I swore I would never go there, but the people are friendly the history is amazing, and I think everyone at one time or another should experience a culture that is very different than their own. I could move to Istanbul.
POlarSource
Where I am we use sergical tubing with glass mouth pieces. I have only seen there locally. They are truly awesome.

ZAP
http://www.shishapipe.net/shopcart/product...p?productid=161 40&cat=0&page=1 Im going to buy a couple of those. Since they're so cheap, i'm thinking of cutting the ends off two and sticking them together so I have an extra long hose. Only problem is that they have a minimum order of 10 pounds.... (BTW I am in the UK and you can see the rip-off prices for Nakhla here!)
NERV
after discovering silicone sealing tape, i have finally attached my old hose end to my plastic hose, it's great, still pulls better than a normal hose, but now has that nice wood handle, metal tip feel
ApoC
hmm yea Mathazar I recognize those hoses, I've got one and it is very well made. I think I'll be building my uber hoses from those actually, since they're threaded at both ends and overall the most robustly-constructed hoses I've found yet. To100YearsToL8
I just bought 2 washable hoses from social smoke. That with some foil, new grommets, and a larger bowl cost me $42 bucks shipped.
ZAP
I made an excellent one yesterday. I got a pipe from an aquarium and then stuck a double hose joiner to the end for a mouth piece. Without the mouth piece the hose felt very very uncomfortable to smoke. The one I used looks just like this one:
ZAP
Oh and I forgot to comment, it smokes absolutely brilliant. I made a diffuser for my hookah and it made the pull tight. When I am using this hose with the diffuser, it just feels like their is a massive air leak making it such a loose draw since their is just a hissing sound coming from the vase. It is an absolute joy to smoke!
