Bradley-University-ΣΦΕ
Hey All, I am new to this forum and would first like to introduce myself and say hi. Secondly, this is the problem. My hookah smokes like ass. I have a 19 inch classic hookah of fairly decent quality. I believe that I may be burning my shisha. I have smoked a million times before buying one and i know how shisha is supposed to taste. Is it proper for the shisha to be stuck to the foil after removing it and also the shisha looks burnt and colorless. Please don't tear me apart as i am very new to this and very excited to begin taking part in this awesome hobby and culture. Thanks everyone - RyanAlso i guess i should add that i am smoking al amir grape with 3 kings. art_official
For one, welcome to the forum! (cool name)Secondly, no one on this forum will tear you apart too quickly because we are all, in the end, hookah smokers. We take life in a slow and relaxed manner, dont feel weird askin questions. (just use the search button, it works i swear).Thirdly, yes it is normal for the sheesh to be somewhat sticking to the foil after it had been smoked. If you think it is burning? Take a coal off. Hookah in a way is an art form, gettin that sheesh to smoke just right. And then starting all over with a new kind of tobacco. Search some threads about propper bowl set up, and acclimation maybe youll find your doing something wrong.Or feel free to say what you do as far as set up goes, ill see if i can help.once again welcome to the forums!Art Official

Twang
Try packing less, sprinkle it in. And try breaking the coal in half and putting them on the edge of the bowl.
Bradley-University-ΣΦΕ
Useually 3 kings quick lite, Al Amir Grape for the time being, 19 Classic Hookah ( Off Brand but of suprisingly good quality), Foil with 20-25 medium sized holes( toothpick size), water is 1 inch below the stem with ice added, and i have no idea what acclimation is at the moment! Bradley-University-ΣΦΕ
Also, is it possible that i need a bigger bowl, the recomendatons are that it is supposed to hold 10-15 grams of Shisha
art_official
wait you put the water below the stem?that is an issue, this means your smoke is just going through ice im sure thats very harsh for you! ahhaalso ya just sprinkle the sheesh lightly into the bowl. your holes seem pretty good i do the same( puncture all over)3kings is also good but try breaking them into quarters and placing them like a separated pie ontop the bowlacclimation means letting the sheesh get used to the humidity of where you are smokeing. i know it sounds ridiculous but to some this can make or break your smoke. just let it sit out and open for a bit where your about to smoke before you pack it.i liekk to keep my sheesh where i smoek (my room) this way it is always acclimated for when i wanna smoke

A suggestion is if you start out with new tobacco i'd browse the review category and check up on how people set up their hookah, but from the sounds of things, your either having too much heat or you just need to really really really clean out your hookah very well. [LB]
yea it sounds like you need to clean your hookah out, adn your bowl. Get a set of brushes and give it a good swabbing until the innner tube is reflectively clean. Make sure you water is 1/2 -1 inch above the bottom of the stem, and that you use fresh clean water every time, and that your VAse is clean as well, this contributes a lot to taste. I know al amir grape, and its a good solid flavor- shouldnt taste like ass. You may be putting too much heat on your bowl, make sure that your bowl is loosely packed and aerated, and that your foil is slight above the shisha. you may be overpacking and that will account for burnt tobacco and ass taste. dont overload your bowl, a little al almir can go a long way if it is manage properly- also use about 1 + 1/2 three kings coals each time. make sure that the coals are properly lit before placing them on, they should be finished sparkling, and should be completely glowing red (you dont want black spots). a common mistake is to place a coal on a bowl immediately once it starts sparkling. [LB]
QUOTE (Bradley-University-ΣΦ& @ Jan 15 2007, 08:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i have no idea what acclimation is at the moment!I dont know about acclimation, i believe its a myth- especially for al amir. The only tobacco of mine that has benefited from acclimation is tangiers- al amir can be smoked directly after being opened. There is something else that is incorrect about your setup, and it starts with hookah maintenance- i think your tobacco is fine. If its old, then that would make it taste like ass, like say you bought it a year ago, or you have left it out in the open sun on more than one occasion. art_official
i agree with LB about the acclimation, its only really important if your smoking tangiers.try cleaning it as LB also said, hot water and lemon juice i swear its a miracle.and next time you smoke your going to want to fully submerge the downstem with or with out ice. Bradley-University-ΣΦΕ
I am Going to try all of that today, but i do believe that my problem is with the packing, and yes my stem is submerged about 1 inch into the water level of the vase! PeaceinIsrael
One possibility could be where your quicklite is as its lighting keep the coal away from your bowl till it is done sparking. I dont know if u knew that but you do have the syptoms of a burt bowl. I personallu dont like quick lites once you go nat............please, PLEASE dont go back!Hope I could help......... Bradley-University-ΣΦΕ
packing less worked, i made my bowl a little bit bigger with some foil around the edges and that raised the coal a little bit. Thanks for all of your help! i appreciate it
