New Favorite Hookah!

Recommended Posts

Allright guys I'm lost. I went to the liqueur store today and notice this place has probably 35 hookah for sale. So I asked them if they sold bowls and hoses. They told me no but they would sell me a complete setup for $20 bucks. Anyways after haggling them down to $15 bucks and them explaining (and swearing to Mohamed) that this one of the best hookahs to purchase I dropped $15 bucks on it. They threw in a roll of coals and a box of Havana Carrot.
They told me it was a taqseem and was made in Syria (yeah right whatever). So I get the thing home and look at it and am baffled by the design. It is made out of turned aluminum (no it's not cast) and anodized (no not painted). The inside of the stem is lined with a brass liner...it's perfectly smooth in there. Down in the heart area you can actually tell it has a liner. It's 18 inches tall to from bottom to top. This hookah has a threaded base...glass threads that directly connect to the metal threads of the stem with a nice big gasket in the middle. It had a small slip of paper inside the base hand written in Arabic. Ok whatever I got a fairly nice hose and a good bowl some tobacco, a roll of charcoal and tongs for $15 bucks whatever.
I got bored tonight and figured what the hell I'm going to smoke it(thinking if it's too pathetic I'll swap the head over to my QT). Guess what? The SOB smoked better than any hookah I have ever smoked! Lots of smoke...More flavor and nice and cool too. How the hell does a $15 hookah out smoke a $40 dollar name brand hookah? Does anyone have a explanation for that?

I'm going to see if I can't find a digital camera to borrow to post some pics of this thing...I have not been able to find one on the Internet even at Taqseem's site.

Hey.... at that cheap. I'da picked it upt too.

Interesting about an anodized, turned aluminum stem product being from Syria.... most of those models are Chinese production... and I'd still guess thats wehre the stem was made at any rate.

It is very possible that the few extra inches may have something to do with your experience...

Havana Carrot?

Something new everyday.

LOL.... they run liquor store and swear to the Prophet? Sure they were Muslim? Edited by Lakemonster

I used to have some Muslim in-laws as they would say, "Allah is very far away."

After the pics go up I'll probably want a magic-super-cheap hookah too. I think someone just accidently started a business. ;-)

Okay everyone a update on this hookah...After reading Lake's post I took the hookah with me to see what my normal guy knew about them.

1. These are Chinese made. He showed me some he keeps in the back to sell to people who complain about his pricing.

2. He took some pipe cleaner and rubbed the brass liner down in the heart where it joins with the stem extension. Can anyone guess what the "brass liner" is? Solid aluminum that is colored to look like brass.

3. The stuff that I thought was silver solder to hold the liner to the aluminum is actually silver painted silicone.

4. He says that the place where I purchased the pipe is actually Mexicans who like to pretend to be arabs because they think it's cool. dry.gif I should have known Arabs would not be eating tacos for lunch.

5. The arabic paper from the base says "مصنوع في الصين" Which according to him (and the website I just used to be able to post that) means "Made in China".

So I guess I was taken, which is ok because I bought it just for parts anyways and it still smokes awsome. I kinda wonder how long that will hold up. Perhaps it is due to the few extra inches of stem length.

If you guys want me to purchase them for you just let me know I'm game, but just thought everyone should actually know what the real story is behind these things...still looking for a camera BTW.

Also I received the website of a wholesaler from Egypt where this guy use to order stuff from, but he said he stopped because he could not sell them for enough $ because of the Chinese stuff out there nowadays. If anyone is interested in the website PM me because I won't be posting it because I can't actually vouch for their quality or service. Suffice it to say that their prices look very cheap to me. My dream stem is $14.99. And they have some interesting hoses there as well.

Lake I'm going to PM you the website and get your opinion on what you think of their stuff just based off the pictures. I think that your a good person to ask with all your hookah knowledge.

PM sent Lake.

I don't think I even trust that place to sell me bear anymore!

The carrot tobacco is awsome! I've smoked 2 bowls already! I just wish it had some nicotine in it...damned washed tobaccos.

Someone PM Yonatan and let him know he's off the hook for the cotton ball thing. I think we have a new winner! laugh.gif "Si senior, ees a bery good pipe. I swear to Allah, man! [Does the sign of the cross on his chest]"

Seriously though, how much discrimination do Mexicans face in Arizona if they think pretending to be from the Middle East will be easier on them?

How much is their carrot tobacco?
I got the last 50 gram box of carrot that they had in stock...250 gm of carrot are selling for 13 bucks. I love the flavor and if it was not a washed tobacco I would buy a tub. My only other choice in flavors was cedar which just sounds awful. I still might go back there and buy a tub of carrot ant try to mix it with a unflavored tobacco for some nicotine. I REALLY like this flavor...but I doubt everyone would tongue.gif If the thought of eating boiled carrots isn't apealing you probably won't like this flavor.

mellow.gif Just be careful. It may smoke well, but if it's that poorly made, there's no telling what kind of paint/solder/metals have been used.

If I were you, I would chalk the $15 up as a learning experience and trash it. It's just not worth the possible health effects. Show them where the brass rubbed off, and see if they'll take it back in exchange for a 40oz or something. huh.gif If not, perhaps you can make it into a cool lamp or something!

The moral of the story is watch out for Arabs with taco breath! laugh.gif

Well the story gets even better...I washed it in hot water to clean it up a few minutes ago and the liner fell out! The liner was only held in place by glue! There's no solder anywhere in the thing...but It's cast aluminum that has been turned rather than a real turned stem. LOL...Smoking it right now and it smokes even better without the liner! And it's not painted...it's actually anodized. The wholesale price for these things is $30 bucks a dozen plus shipping from china.

Yeah Tinqjunkie I think the moral is beware of Arabs with taco breath pedaling alcohol and porn next to the hookahs.

no offense but for 15 bucks it sounds like a pile of shit. I mean it might smoke nice right now but in two weeks the thing might jus fall apart
No offense taken. I got screwed pretty hard. But I got a decent hose and a bowl so I'm not that upset really. Then again you live and you learn right? I guess I can be too trusting sometimes.
Just everyone be aware to not purchase the same hookah.
