casey
So tonight was the first night trying the Phunnel bowl. I started up with it and we just couldn't get it going at all. Hardly any smoke and then I switch back to the regular bowl that came with it and we got it working just fine. Also, the tangiers phunnel bowl holds muuuch more shisha than the normal bowl. Anyway, I definitely had to poke a hole in the middle and I tried fewer and fewer around the sides, but the thing would just vibrate the foil and the coals would bounce around. What am I doing wrong? I'd really like to get it to work since you guys speak so highly of it and plus I spent 15 bucks on it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.Oh, and man tonight I got a buzz from the shisha. I think its because I smoked a lot more than last time. There were 3 of us and then 2. So many more puffs. Good news is I'm getting better at my rings! unleashtheclown
You need to pack it higher so that the foil is against the shisha. Also use a hole a pattern with 2 circles the same size as the coal you are using accross from each other. And a Coal on each cirlce, and just rotate the foil
Sonthert
Yeah, if you don't have enough tobacco in the bowl, the foil seals over the hole, blocking flow. I think thats what clown is saying.
unleashtheclown
Yea and also the foil rattling is because of the tobacco not against the foil tightly enough
DizzyGuy
More tobacco and more heat... I fill the bowl up with tobacco till it's level with the center piece... The foil rattles because it's not secured on the bowl good enough. I've never had a problem with the foil blocking the hole, but I usually have the foil pretty tight
Luke69
Question. Wouldnt the coal burn the shisha touching the foil? Making a bad taste?

cohlineman
I seem to have very good luck with my funnel for short sessions. Many times, since I got it, I will take and fill only 1/4 to 1/2 of the bowl (1 side) and not high enough to touch the foil because I don't like the burnt taste that can sometimes occur doing so. I then poke my holes with a tooth pick 2 wide just over the portion of the bowl that is filled. I have never used a hole over the center. Two quik lights to start and one or two after that, depending on how long I want to sit there. No drawing problems at all, and 1/2 of a medium bowl will last me 1 hour easy. My brief funel experience has taught me that it does take more coals than a normal type bowl, but I weigh that against how clean everything remains when I am done, especially with wet AF tobaccos and it's a wash.I am very happy with it. Try a tighter foil seal
DizzyGuy
Lots of people think that just because the foil touches the tobacco that it's gonna burn/leave a bad taste/ect.... it's just a different kind of heat management.
Allia22
So this would definitely be a problem for impatient people like me who want thick clouds right away and torch their bowl with 2 40mms... *doh*
looloopoopie
Bigger holes for the coals certainly helped me when I had trouble with my first session with the funnel. As Sonthert mentioned in one of his earlier posts, larger, fewer holes heat better than many smaller holes.
Sonthert
QUOTE (Luke69 @ Jan 19 2007, 04:09 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Question. Wouldnt the coal burn the shisha touching the foil? Making a bad taste?I have never believed that. Experiments have never confirmed that. Thats using Tangiers , of course. Mileage may vary. In fact, the gap will help for people that like to put too much charcoal on their sheesha or perhaps they use a 40mm 3 Kings with a specific bowl. In fact, that charcoal hypothetically is too much for that bowl, then in fact a gap reduces the heat transfer and makes it works well. It would be better, instead of doing bypass engineering, using a gap to make the overheating situation passable, to do direct engineering, and use a smaller coal or a larger bowl. If that is the case, start eliminating the gap and scale back on your charcoal. You say "It works for me." It does, you don't need to change, but fundamentally, you are wasting thermal energy which equates to using more charcoal than you really need. Which seems like a waste of money.
