buzz'd
So after hearing so many great reviews on this forum i decided to buy a 2 hose MYA Acrylic, a small phunnel bowl, and some Tangiers tabacco. I read through everything you guys had to say regarding the bowls and the tabacco, and i thought i knew what was doing. After 20 minutes of smoking i almost barfed it tasted like i was smoking burning wood, it was terrible and harsh. I was using Tangiers Peach, in my small phunnel, with regular foil and 1 golden coal, and no matter if i had more holes, less holes, smaller holes, or less coal all i got was small wispy thin hits, that were full of lung burning goodness . If anyone could please post some pictures of how they pack their phunnels with Tanigers, and their hole/coal configurations i would appreciate it very much. I have tried acclimating the tabacco FYI, for up to 12 hours. Could the problem be that it is very cold outside, and the coal was very hot? Please help. JesusDoesVegas
Did you smoke outside? If you smoked outside, but acclimated inside (say on the kitchen counter or something) where the temperature is different, you acclimated to the wrong environment. We have had a huge number of these funnel bowl related threads lately... perhaps one big funnel Q&A megathread is in order?

Put a lot or little bit of coal on it and put on or take off until it isnt harsh anymore.4) use good quality coals. During the summer I had the same problem and I had too acclimate for almost a week before it worked out.Dont give, keep trying and I promise as soon as you get it working you will see why Tangiers is so damn popular.--Amichai Israeli
Twang
Load more. Use more coals. Break the coals up and put them on the edge of the bowl.
Evil_Spork
dont use quicklights!use japanese silver coals for the easiest heat managment. quicklights burn hotter and will burn tangiers.
Sonthert
If the Smoke is thin and harsh, you put the tobacco in there too thin. The tobacco should be the same thickness in the bowl as it is in the bag. Also make sure you stir the tobacco and juice up real well before putting it in the bowl. Same thickness? What does that mean? Imagine you're used setting the table. Your mother likes you to put the plates out. You go in the cupboard and they are stacked up. You pull them down and spread them across the table. The cupboard is the bag/tub and the table is the bowl. The plates are the tobacco. Most brands of tobacco need to be spread out from the way they "stack up" in the cupboard. Tangiers, you get a stack of plates from the cupboard and put them on the table in the same way, in a stack. Does that analogy help?
Allia22
Sir, that was a brilliant analogy.

buzz'd
Ok, so i just used another bowl, and it was better. The smoke was still thin, and it was way less harsh though. It worked better with japanese coals!!! I think i was packing the bowl to full, well this is a work in progress. It probably doesnt help that the weather here is very cold.
