OPR234
Well, whats wrong with your two half coal setup? I don't have much experience with this type of coal myself, but I would try breaking them into thirds or quarters if you can, and just experiment with placement. mushrat
I'll get some video shot tonight.I break my finger coals down to about 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces. sit them on a hot plate until they are while all over and put them on. I know how many pieces to use for each kind of shisha from experience.
Guest Namenone
the two finger coals has decent smoke for about 5 minutes then goes crap, even though the coal is still hot
OPR234
You could also try using two pieces of foil on your bowl, I'm not sure how it helps with heat management, but it helps me a lot, I double up my foil whenever I use my QT, otherwise the smoke is always harsh. mushrat
If you dont mind me asking, what brand finger coals? You have a link to where you got them perhaps?
speel
step 1: take finger coal and break it in half so you have 2 peicesstep 2: put one of the peices back in the coal bag and get a knife ( i use a butter knife ) and break 4 1/2 in peices from the half that you broke in step onestep 3: light coals over stove till the bottoms are pretty redstep 4: put on top of foil or screen and let the tobacc bake for a few mins purge some puffs and get ready for a great session
Sonthert
You have to heat those fingers up ALOT more than what you're used to with disc-type coals. You need to wait until they are glowing yellow and developing a dust of white ash on them. If they are merely reddish-orange, they will go out very quickly. Lakemonster
LOL..... yet another name I hadnt seen for the "brand"Should be good coal.My success with them has been in that I break each piece into around 1" lengths with 2 pairs of pliers(one in each hand, just makes it so you can snap it off exactly where you want)The next step is to make sure you get the entire outer surface red hot from the hotplate or torch.... when the entire surface of the coal is ash..... then you can bet you got a good light that will keep. Guest Namenone
what way do you place the coals down? do you place it down like a sausage as in across? or can you place it so the sides are on the foil (the circle bits, i.e the ends of the coal are on the foil so the coal will be high?) (This would only work with small pieces) ? I hope that makes sense,What ways better?
smiley
Just have to make sure that those suckers are glowing. Also try to distibute them around the edge of your bowl. Also foil is a deductor of heat. Thats why you can touch it so soon after comeing out of a oven. So you may need more heat distrabution.Good LuckSmiley
cypherkk
I always broke my fingers into 4 pieces. about 3/4 to and inch long, then I put two on the stove and when they were hot moved them to the tray and started the others.Moved the 2 in the tray to a large standard bowl, and smoked those two till the others were ready. Then i moved the 2 on the stove to the tray untill it needed heat. Then, I would add one at a time till I got the right amount of smoke. If you are smoking something and it goes bad after 5 minutes, then most likely you are using way too much heat and burning the top of the shisha. Use less heat, take more time getting it to smoke well, them move one.I can usually make a bowl last about 2 hours of constant smoking this way. Its pretty much the method I used leveling a 60 in WOW. Right now I'm using quick lites, which smell less on the burner but change the flavor a litttle bit. Mostly, cause I can't find a store that sells fingers near where I live.
Attila
would be interested in that video too - switched to natural coals some time ago, and still not sure about the 'right' method - iin case such a thing exists.my method is by the way, to have a smaller and a bigger piece of coals (one about 2-3 centimetres, the other one about 4-5 centimetres long), so i can play around with heat during the session (i would hate to get up to lite another piece in the middle of smoking)
