Allia22
I get to school in the morning around 7:30 AM, leave my hookah (minus the bowl, I keep that in my toolchest inside the school to keep it somewhat warm) in the car for 4 hours til I get my 2 hour break. It's winter now, obviously. The temp was around 1 degree F with the windchill today, so you can imagine how cold my hookah, hoses, and vase would get. I set up my crap in my car (yep, I'm hardcore, I smoke in the car in that weather. GO WISCONSIN GIRLS!!! ), coals on... waiting... waiting... waiting... Smoke takes FOREVER to build up, and it's super-thin for a long time. About half an hour after lighting my coals, I start getting the nice thick, flavorful clouds I'm aiming for. Am I just being impatient, or is this normal? Edited January 25, 2007 by Allia22
tlmasonaea
I don't leave my hookah outside, but I do smoke outside in the cold. Sometimes it takes me quite a while to get good thick smoke and other times it's almost instant. Don't know what to tell ya.
OPR234
Yeah there is such a thing as too cold. The coldest I've smoked my hookah outside was about 12º and I got the thin smoke you described. Eventually we said screw it, and brought the hookah inside and it was like instant puffy clouds of goodness. There isnt much you can do about it that I can think of, other than find a wamrer place to smoke

NorthEastSmoker
Yeah I've smoked while ice fishing before, out on a lake.. takes a while to get going, but once it does, it smokes great...
web250
I'm sure that extreme temperature doesn't help the tobacco smoke any. I'd try to keep the tobacco warmer, the rest of the good should be alright.
art_official
most regular sheesha like starbuzz and what not is a very highpercentage of water. this is why even in normal conditions you have to wait for it to heat up, essentially your waiting for the water to boil. tangiers however is eitehr made with a lot less water or none at all (i forget) eitehr way if you smoke tangiers you dont gotta wait for it to heat upeither keep your sheesh nice and warm, or smoke tangiers! i guess i take advantage of living in nice warm sunny california
bradfordr
I'm from Canada, so I've got some serious experience in this department!Today I smoked in about -30C with the Windchill (-22F) and it was amazing! I do keep my shisha inside, however, and so it doesn't take terribly long to warm up.I also use a windcover which keeps the bowl warm, perhaps you want to try that next time? Sonthert
I have never found conditions that prohibit smoking. When the dewpoint gets down to 10-20F (Which is higher than it was for you), smoking becomes more difficult, also the colder it is, the more glycerine/smoke should theoretically reflux...thinning the smoke. Its more likely if you kept your tobacco inside, smoked it out in the cold that there was a manster case of dry humidity shock, which is often typified by thin smoke. ALso, since water content is an issue, and it takes lots of thermal energy to heat up water, it will take longer to heat up high moisture tobacco when cold then when war, because the larger the amount of heating, the longer it will take (obviously). So, yes. Also, great deal. I'd love to go Wisconsin Girls.

ghostofdavid
I've only been to Wisconsin dales. I'm afraid to smoke in too cold of conditions... I get sick too easy. I'd never have lived without antibiotics!
