I Need Hookah Questions Answered!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so Ive been smoking hookah for a couple of years now, but havent really gotten technical with it....

I plan on purchasing a new hookah along with some quality coals and tobaco, hoping you guys could help me with my
decision. Id prefer a hookah with a screw on base, and one that is not too tall, around a maximum of 26inches or so.

I hate easylite coals and prefer traditional light ones. According to a reviewer, stargate seems to be good coals, any word
on that?

browsing through hookah websites, I feel confident ordering through hookah-shisha.com. They have a pretty good selection, but are the quality of their hookahs any good? if not, any other place recommended to order from?

As far as tobacco goes, which brand is widely hailed, and would be good. Reading the
reviews on this forum, al amir and al waha seem to be pretty good. what others should I be checking out?

Finally, are those bowl screens worth it? The idea seems really nice, but I feel like those holes are way to big
and the ashes from the coals would jsut get into the shisha...any advice on that?

Thanks for any help, I know those are a lot of questions, but I want to make a good decision.

first off: Welcome to Hookah Forum! The knowledge base here is incredible, you'll get all your answers eventually.

I can't help you with all your questions, as I really dont know of many (any, really) hookahs that have screw bases, but you can find them.
hookah-shisha co. is a pretty reputable seller, but they dont have everything. I would suggest just browsing a little really, some other good sellers have reviews posted in the vendor review section, I would reccomend a few but I don't wish to offend any of the vendor's if I leave them out.
tobacco al amir and al waha is pretty widely liked and are pretty popular. many also enjoy Starbuzz, Tangiers, and a good deal of others, also available to you in the product reviews section.

pretty much eveyone on here just uses the tin foil, but I for one use the charcoal screens, and I know there are afew others. I find the charcoal screens to be really convenient, theres really no hassle and you just pop em on. as far as I can tell this really doesnt affect the habits of the ash, as if you notice ash really tends to stick to your coals alot.

thats it for me, hope I could help.

I have this one in green and purchased it for much, much cheaper (it can be found for much cheaper, just poke away at websites). It is a screw-on type threaded system and smokes wonderfully. If you do order it through Mya, they can give you a different stem at no extra charge that has threaded holes for up to 3 other adapters to convert it from a one hose to a four.

thanks for all the input so far, everything is useful. I was also wondering if you guys had any input or preference with coals? Ive tried easy lites and they taste terrible, I want good quality coals, in the review section, almost everyone says "their" coals are oderless and have no taste effects, are most coals purchased from reputable websites good?

I personally only use self lighting coals. But I tried some Starlight natrual ones with the silver coating and they were ver good heatwise... I'm just way to impatient to wait for them to start. And shisha.. I started with Layalina, my very first tobacco, and its kinda stuckk with me, I have lots of repect for the brand. Also good are hookah-hookah's shots, I LOVE key lime.. =] Al-Waha is interesting, but I think its like mixed with honey instead of molasses? I forget...

Yeah, it says "MOLASSES" on the lid, but in the ingredients there's no mention of it smile.gif

It was explained to me this way:

In arabic, what we call molasses is referred to, translated, roughly as black molasses. Glycerine is referred to white molasses, so in fact tobacco has moved away from black molasses to white molasses, but translated roughly, it still contains molasses.
