hookerman
pack your bowl, but not to the top, put 2 quick lites on top of the foil, now here is the part,***Note: the bowl might get a little hot, but if you do this in the first few minutes, mine did not get that hot to the touch.1) let the coals sit there for 1 minute, take 3-4 puffs (small ones) just to heat the tobaco2) take coals off and remove the bowl from the hookah, shake it up and down couple times to mix the tobacco inside. last shake, should be downwards, so no tobacco sticks to the foil.3) put the bowl back on hookah, put coals back on, take 3-4 puffs4) remove coals, shake it few times like step25) put the bowl back on with coals on top, smoke for some heavy ass smoke.my conclusion: the heat is evenly distributed across all tobacco and shaking it ,mixes the little crust build up across tobacco, so air can move freely.**********************Note: The bowl might get a little hot, but in my experience it didn't get too hot to the touch since the procedure takes only few minutes. If bowl is hot to the touch, use a wet napkin/papertowel to grab the bowl. cymptom
Definitely sounds worth a shot. Sometimes when my hookah gets tipped over and the bowl falls off, when I resume the session it seems to smoke better than it had been before the spill. web250
Hmmm...don't know if it'd be worth the hassle...but it's a unique idea.
[LB]
I do this sometimes when i feel like the bowl is too tight, just a warning for all of you out there who like to poke a million little holes- if you shake too hard the foil will break and the shisha will spill everywhere! Allia22
Wow, I'm glad I didn't give up on it after sending shisha everywhere... it REALLY works. It tapers off after a little while, but those hits right after mixing it up are INSANE

azcoyote
Back when i was very new here I suggested a way to jump start your hookah, but it was met with a great deal of derision. I still think it's a pretty good idea, some may with to try. It's a lot simpler than what's suggested here. Microwave JumpstartWhen coals are almost ready,1. Pack bowl to top2. cover with plastic food wrap3. place upside down in microwave for 30 sec on high.4. place hot bowl on stem, apply foil or screen, and top with fully-lit coals5. Enjoy a lush hit from the first pull
hookah hippie
I tried this using the phunnel bowl I believe it was working but I wasn't able to get a huge pull because I am still getting over a cold, but I do think it was workingBe sure to put your thumb over the hole in the middle to prevent tobacco from flying out Edited February 1, 2007 by hookah hippie

McDarragh
One thing you would want to be wary of with the microwave though.... (i think) Is it's possible there are some air bubbles/liquid inside the bowl - weather its soaked molasses into the bowl sides or whatever. It's possible i think that your bowl could explode or crack??? I could be wrong... 30 secs isnt that long though so maybe not...
