Acclimitising Layalina?

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I got some layalina cherry (and some raspberry!)

However my first bowl of cherry was not very good - didn't taste brilliant. However it was
straight out the box and was just desperate to try it.

A day later and i've used a funnel bowl with some japense coals... and the taste difference is amazing.

This is really nice smoke. First impression above was dubious.

Could this be a result of acclimisting it?

Cheers.

Yep, from the little experience I have, nothing is too good right out of the box, especially when it's cold out. One of the few things that can make Starbuzz peach taste... eh.

It's interesting you say that.... i did notice that the box of japanese coals i got was
very cold to the touch.

Hmm - Thanks Allia! It's going great now biggrin.gif

could very well be the setup as well..

did you use the funnel bowl and the japanese coals (are these quicklites?) the first time?

from my experience acclimating only helped increase the hit size and consistency of the burn. i never saw a huge difference in flavor though.

might be that layalina needs to be acclimated, as the above mentioned was with al waha

at least you got it tastin good!

JD I don't acclimate my layalina when I first smoke. I just open the bag and pack a bowl and have had very few issues. Everyonce in awhile I have had a bad smoke but the second go around is back to normal.

My starbuzz and tangiers I keep in ziploc bags. The layalina I just leave in the bag after I cut it open and just stick it back in its box. Its acclimated by the time I smoke it again, but like I said very few issues straight out of the box.
