McDarragh
Aniseed is the flavouring of licorice - Fennel also tastes of aniseed. Licorice is the flavour it gives to shisha Edited February 1, 2007 by McDarragh

cymptom
For questions like this you should consider dictionary.com or wikipedia first -- not just to avoid making an unnecessary thread, but to get your answer faster! No antagonism intended As for anise... as I said in the other thread, it can be likeable sometimes. I think it makes a good mixer and can go well with middle-eastern food... cohlineman
Anise> anisette> aniseed>fennel>fennel root>fenel seed all come from the fennel plant, all the different parts of the plant have the licorice flavor you speak of in varying levels and is the main ingredient in licorice. The seeds have the most concentration of oils.Fennel root can be found in the vegge section of most markets and sliced thin in a mixed salad will gice a nice light licorice flavor off that works well with oil and vinegar. In italian it is known as Finnocchio (fin-ok-yo)
