Hookah Bar Doing It All Wrong

Recommended Posts

I went last night to smoke at a new local hookah bar that I haven't been in a while since they opened (about 5 months ago). They have a real nice set up and decent prices. Their regular smoke is $9 per person and they use Layalina Shisha and for their premium smoke is $11 per person and they use starbuzz. They have tons of flavors and you can mix and match any of them.

It has a nice atmosphere and is the only reason I'd go there being that I have my own hookah. However this time when I went I was heavily disappointed. I paid for a premium session for me and my friend. The first flavor only lasted 25 minutes. This was with just two people! How could starbuzz die out so fast. Instead of making a big deal about it I asked for another flavor.....again it died out in about 30 minutes maybe a little more. They have large modern stargate hookahs and they are real hard to suck the smoke out of. I don't if they hookahs are like this by design but I honestly think they just put too much water in it. My friend has a similar hookah and it smokes much easier than theirs. It almost seems as if they have 3 inches of water above the bottom of the pipe. Its ridiculous. By the third time we change the flavor I told the guy that I thought there might be too much water in the hookah or that at least it might have been packed wrong. Instead of offering me to change the hookah he went on telling me how their premium sessions should last an hour and 45 minutes and that I was changing it too soon. That got me a little upset. It also strange how their premium hookah which is starbuzz taste nothing as it is when I'm smoking the same flavor at home.

Anyhow things like that discourage me from coming back. It has a great "chill" atmosphere but when it comes to the actual hookah smoking they have it all wrong.

I guess if you want things done right...you have to do it yourself. If only I could go in there and pack my own bowl and fill up the hookah.

Yeah. I once tried the same thing and you would have to suck real hard. You would just end up getting less smoke.

All the hookahs at this place are the same. It could be the hookahs themselves but I'm pretty sure its how they set them up.

well its a stargate. Water level rules dont apply to it. Because it is completely different. You cant just have water 1 inch above. It is a little bit more tricky to make it work. As far as the starbuzz, are you sure they just arent using small bowls? My other bowl that I have holds about 12g and with 2 people we go through it in about 40 minutes.

nope their regular bowls. My friend has the same one they do..the ones with the metal screen that flips out built-in.

why doesn't the water rule apply to it? Just because of the triangular base? I still think 3" over is too much. If not then does any one with a stargate know if they are hard to suck? Edited by RayVer

no. I have a stargate that i use EVERYDAY. I never fill it to the glass/ metal line ever. That makes three things happen* number one. the hookah is hard to smoke out of. Number 2 the hookah hits very poorly. Not much smoke at all. Number three, the water will go up inside the stem and you will keep getting a "burbling" sound in the hose or actually inhale water into your mouth (yuck!!!).

I did this the first couple of times i recieved my hookah and was very upset because it seemed like an "obvious" water line. I played around with it and found that the best water lever is about an inch to an inch and3/4 from the bottom of the stem.

I get good long powerful hits from my hookah and with my hookah, the same bowl will last an hour - to 2 hours as long as i put new coals on.

I use my Stargate more than my other ones wink.gif i love it!!!!!

but this is just mho, and what is good for the goose may not be good for the gander.
