i had a mya acrylic awhile back and the base was broken at a party. the stem was just sitting around so i bought that base. I dont use it as much as i would like to but its hella nice to look at.

does it smoke good though?

I have this particular Mya and i like...it nice. But i will say there were a few things that are annoying:

-The lower stem is quite thick and was creating a bit of vibration throughout the hookah causing the coals to move a bit. I took the lower stem and cut small slits with a dental lathe and a carbite disc creating a diffuser (ive read ppl do it with a dremel). 3 slits per row, 12 total, covering the bottom inch of the stem. It pulls so smoothe now and is incredibly quiet. Havnt noticed any rust yet on the slits closing in on 2 months since i did it.

-The upper stem is kind of a b****. The inside is narrow, all uneven, and rough making it tricky to clean. I clean mine after every smoke but it still builds up this metallic smell after a while. I started to taste it a few times and decided to use some tougher cleaner and soaked it in hot water n dish soap for an hour. Did the trick but after a few weeks its coming back (o_O)

That said i still love it. It smokes great and looks badass so im not worried about a lil extra cleaning.

Its really not that bad. I've never seen the stems off of anything non-mya so I really cant attest to anything. I'll take pictures of the stem tomorrow if I get a chance,

Honestly its only something ive tasted after a month + usage. I usually wash it by running warm water through it till im satisfied its clean enough. About once a week i use dish liquid, a stem brush, and soak it a bit in a hot water/dish soap solution. You can smell that metallic odor but not taste it during a smoke unless its really bad. I used some stronger kitchen cleaners a few weeks ago and that really worked well. Ive read people use lemon juice to clean their hookahs and will give that a try. The SMELL is coming back but i cant taste it during a smoke yet. Its an annoying attribute of the mya it seems but it doesnt deturr me from loving this hookah. Im fairly confident i wont be tasting anything metallic when i smoke now that i know to really clean the crap out of it periodically.

Sorry, i didnt mean to put you off from this particular hookah, but i thought it best to be completely honest rather than give the stereotypical "smokes like a champ" response. It does smoke like a champ. It just involves a bit more attention.

I washed mine every time after a smoke. Pay attention to what i said. The smell built up anyway. Im not bashing the hookah nor am i a noob who doesnt know how to clean. Im just being completely honest. It built up in spite of my washing. I had to use a stronger kitchen cleaner to take out that metallic smell. Ill try lemon juice as well as baking soda in the future. I stand by what i said before. I still love this hookah.

ya its a screw on base...The seal is the best ive experienced, and its a great hookah. I have two egyptian hookahs. a large one (34in) and a small SocialSmoke 22 Inch. In spite of the metallic smell that built up in the Mya pyramid style Vortex hookah over time, it still smokes the best. I havnt had any sort of metallic smell in either egyptian though. I also clean those after every smoke. biggrin.gif They clean easier than the mya though, because of less parts and a strait stem in both.

Again, this is an honest review from experience. I love the mya pyramid hookah, and feel its totally worth what i paid for it, in spite of the extra maintanence.

I might also note that i have a close friend who was a part owner of a hookah lounge. He came over to smoke with me recently and praised the "vortex" for both its quality in appearence and smoke. He had never experienced a Mya hookah before but seemed quite impressed with its performance. He did however, feel that the best quality of smoke came from an egyptian (the large34 inch he gave me) which i felt was inferior to both the mya and small Social Smoke.

My experience, i realize is completely subjective.

the thing that worries me is the metal taste.

the stem is solid cast metal, so the inside is not smooth and it is hollow! it is not a sleeved stem like many other hookahs are.
this fact makes the inside a bit harder to clean, but if youre willing to put some alcohol or "tobacco water pipe" cleaner in and shake it up a bit, youll end up with a clean stem easily.

id say take the lazy route, clean it with hot water frequently and every couple weeks use some special cleaner. id recommend "420" brand. your local head shop should have it. or "bling" brand. they work REALLY well for cleaning glass smoking devices that werent used for tobacco, so i can only imagine they would do a stellar job at cleaning a mya stem. thats how ill be cleaning my QT stem when it needs it.

once you compare a cheap egyptian to a mya theres really no comparison. mya stems are SOLID metal. the stem of my QT weighs more than my WHOLE egyptian hookah!!!

I've had two of these.

It's a very beautiful hookah and gets tons of compliments. Smokes awesome, just have to figure out the water level. Comes apart just like any other mya hookah. Glass is mya quality, as well as stem. Very good hookah, especially if coupled with a phunnel (med, or small bowl).
