Johnny_D Posted February 13, 2007 Share Posted February 13, 2007 I purchase a scalli mod from mnhookahs a few weeks back, but had not tried it until last night.Pack the bowl using a little less tobacco (Layalina raspberry in this case).The top of the mod was a little above the normal top line of the bowl causing the foilto be lifted a little higher than normal.It took a couple of minutes for this to get going, however once it did i could not believethe increased amount of both smoke & taste. More importantly the taste!I used less coal, used less tobacco and this bowl smoked nice for 2 hours. The scalli mod makes a huge difference I think the foil being lifted a little higher also helped to reduce burning.JDPS :- i was using japenese coals. instead of the usual 4 pieces i was using 3. The single biggest benefit (From my own personal point of view) is that the mod forces all the air via the tobacco. I guess at least 35-40% of the total volume of air drawn into the vase goes straight down the hole. With the mod 100% must go through the tobacco?That is my overriding and lasting impression of the mod. Flavour. Oh - And I was buzzing my nuts off from layalina Sunday night. Like mentioned the air sucked in from the coals goes through the tobacco then to the bottom of the bowl where it seeps in through the mod. With the mod there needs to be no guessing in how big the hole in the middle needs to be. just slap it on and pack the tobacco around it. Just poke holes like on a normal bowl just not in the middle. the mod also pushes the tinfoil up a little.Definitely worth the 3 bucks or whatever I paid for it.my .02Matt Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's never happened before!JDDunno, but with either way of packing a half or a full phunnel I have billows of smoke. I hate that word Billows. Anyway, maybe on QT it makes a difference because I dont get as much smoke with the QT and a Phunnel as my Egyptian and Phunnel. The amount of smoke I get from half a phunnel is pretty crazy. No need for any crazy mods here.Later tonight Ill try out a foil Scalli mod and see how well it smokes.As far as holes in the middle. I make 4 holes that are the same size as the rest of the hole in my foil. It smokes like a champ. I tried the big holes and it didnt work that well.
