Tangiers Taste Like Smoked Beef Jerky?

Recommended Posts

i think the smell is strong with tangy's tobacco because its US made/grown tobacco and stuff is a bit strong. My blackthorn had a kinda bbq smoked hint to it, but after 3+ hours of acclimating the smell died down and smelled pretty damn fruity,

I've never smelled anything like that... in fact, I find that Tangiers has the least amount of undertone of any brand I've tried. From my experience, Tangiers is unrivaled in terms of flavor intensity and purity.

is it perhaps made with virginian tobacco? virginia pipe tobacco smells like barbeque sauce when you first open it. very smokey. but if you let it sit it goes away. sounds like what some of you may be encountering.

of course, the pipe tobacco doesn't TASTE anything like barbeque sauce... maybe this does because it's not being burned.

i have a bit of this stuff on the way to my house ATM, i'll let you know if it smells similiar to my virginia pipe baccy when i gets it.

Ahh, crap. I am sorry the Tangy I sent you went south on you. I was hoping you would get a good smoke out of it. Has this happened to any of your other flavors, Macho?

Nope, never happened before. I still have no idea what happened. When the package came I was just starting a lovely two week bout of fever, and strep throat. I remember smelling the little baggy and practically drooling, because it smelled like pure Heaven. But buy the time I finally got to smoke it, it smelled like steak sauce. o_o;; Can tobacco actually spoil??

Ive gotten my package of tangiers since end of October/beginning Nov and Ive kept them in paper plates and left them out to acclimate and mix it once or twice a day if I get the chance. Well everytime I go to smell it, it smells different. Most of the time I get that smokey smell and when I pack it that same day it tastes smokey with a hint of sweet (undistinctable), but when it smells like its supposed to and I pack it that same day it smokes beautifully with very slight harshness (I am probably using too much coal). Everyday the smell is different, sometimes 2/3 times a day it smells different, so its a hit and miss I dunno what keeps affecting it.

Well I might have to go back on my word. I thought I'd give blackthorn a try... just took it out of the package and guess what -- it smells like beef jerky. It might actually just be a tobacco smell -- and it's not a strong smell... it's almost as though there's just no flavoring in the tobacco, so all you smell is tobacco and molasses. It's a different kind of scent -- it's not a 'flavoring' kinda scent that fills the air, but rather one that you have to stick your nose inside the container to detect. I assume this would be attributed to humidity shock, but the thing is my Red Tea, which has been perpetually acclimated since I got it 6 months ago, has always had that same smell and I gave ol' Tangy the benefit of the doubt and concluded it was just the nature of the flavor.

I also just opened new batches of Kashmir and Kashmir Apple and while they smell slightly unusual, I don't doubt that they'll come around with a bit of acclimation. But this Blackthorn... I don't know, it smells like rolling tobacco and molasses, as though there is no flavoring in it at all... unsure.gif

Both my red tea and blackthorn came out of the bag smelling "smokey"
Wow, sounds familiar...

Paper plates!? Oh man... I don't know if that's such a good idea. The plates would absorb the juices and flavorings, no?

No I still mix it up now (still have bout 200g left in each of the five plates) and theres the same amount of juices as when I first put it in. I used type of plates where you can have one plate and flip another plate on top and interlocks together.
