Honestly, I don't think it has much to do with the technique, I think it's just a really fussy tobacco and it depends a lot on atmospheric conditions and other weird variables to smoke properly. The myth is the specificity of technique, in my opinion -- when it smokes good, it smokes good almost no matter how you pack it; when it smokes poorly, there's not much you can do to fix it. I say this because I've had success with so many different techniques, as have others, but what works one week will be a disaster the next.

id be interested to see a video mush. I have a specific way i pack tangiers, but i still cant smoke it by myself for more than 15 minutes without getting an overwhelming deadly buzz. Maybe a change in methods would help.

I've always just broken up my 30mm quicklights (3k) into halves/quarters. I have a decent-sized bag of randomly broken quicklights, and those work PERFECT for tangiers. I light up 3-6 of them, and let them sit on the tray, and I put them on the bowl as neccessary. When they start to burn out, I stick a few more on to light up and keep it going. I learned this from a hookah bar I go to that used real coals, and they would often give us many small ones (sometimes with one big piece, depending on the flavor) to move around as it got hot. I find this works very well for heat distribution, esp. for tangiers.

2ndly....try hot water in the vase. From what I understand, this absorbs more nicotine than cold water, so it should make Tangiers easier to smoke to newbies to high nicotine content tongue.gif (first time I smoked tangiers, I did the process Ive been doing recently...putting the vase with the water in the freezer, along with the stem and hose for an hour or so.....and holy hell, I about fainted from the buzz tongue.gif)

Do like Erica says, put a whole bunch in the bowl. It will be damn near overflowing when you know you've got it right. I use a small funnel and three japanese coals. And poke holes like crazy with three holes shaped like a triangle over the hole. I have no problems with my tangiers.

I think the most common problem is too much heat..i use tiny chunks of coal and get great results every time...i mean mere cinders...

i will agree with this. i know eric only uses jap coals and they tend to give off less heat then quicklights

ok ok..I've just have to FORCE myself to smoke some blackthorn or Kashmir peach this weekend sometime...but remember..I do it all wrong. tongue.gif

Just ordered Tangiers Kashmir Peach and i'm fairly a newbie so a video tutorial would be awesome!

Doesn't matter if you do it wrong, as long as you can smoke it.

I use 3 Kings so should I brake up one of them into how many pieces? 2? 3? 4?

I find anymore than one quick lite and it gets too hot to pull. It seems patience (whichI failed to put any skill points into lol) is a virtue when smoking tangiers.

So then how long 'til you get passed all the little harshness and the little bit of smoke and REALLY get it going. I find that after 5-7 minutes its still very little smoke and a little bit of harshness so I put on more charcoal and I get a kick ass flavor and badass smoke and no harshness. Then in the next 3-4 puffs it gets WAY too harsh and I could never revive it after that.

I use the original Mya bowl , pack it full , poke a couple of holes over it.
I then take a 33mm 3K quicklite , break it in two , and place them on opposite sides , near the edges.
Instant clouds for me , If it gets harsh , I remove coals , wait a bit , then place them closer to the edge , or change the spot.
I'll try more on the phunnel tonight
