WhitzEnd
My favorite combos almost always have mint in them...and no matter what i try or how little mint i use...even putting it on the bottom...at some point way before the bowl is anywhere near done the mint becomes overwhelming and harsh...so much mint that it burns? Any suggestions?I generally use al-waha mint but as of late ive been using SB Social Smoke blend (which is a pretty minty blend, i cant taste anything but mint in it)
Gaara
Fill up the vase with some frozen water and throw inside 10-15 very thin lemon slices. Then mix it up a little. Fill the bowl up with a 1/3 of mint tobacco and 2/3's of double apple. It's very important to mix the tobacco really well inside the bowl. Holes for the bowl do the following: 14-15 holes in the center, and then 1 hole at each direction of the compass (north, east, south and west). That's my favorite combo with mint; seems to always smoke smoothly.
NorthEastSmoker
Well the Al Waha mint is a very strong flavor, and I agree that it can be overwhelming even in small amounts. I've had good success with Al Amir mint; a good cool taste, but not as much of the sinus cleaning power that the Al Waha has..
cafesaden
actually, the only HookahHookah flavor I have or buy is spearmint. I use that for mixes. also al fakher mint is good for mixing as well.
cafesaden
also try packing the bowl like follows:half of the bowl with desired flavor (lets say Al Fakher Grape)pack the other half with a mint mix (al fakher grape with a little little bit of Al Fakher mint sprinkled on top)put like one piece of coal on the mint mix and 2 coals on the grape. This way if it gets harsh, you can also remove the coal from the mint, clear the base, and smoke the grape. At least you won't have ruined a whole bowl. And you will know how much mint to put in next time. I only put like 3 pieces total of mint on top or else its overpowering.
Joey32b
My rule when making a mix with mint is this: If you don't think you've put in enough mint, you're wrong; you've probably put in too much. I only add a small pinch of mint and it is fine. Sonthert made me a Strawberry Mint mix once and the ratio of strawberry to mint was 72:1. Yes, 72 times more strawberry. yashman19
Ok this is how I mix flavors when smoking hookah...Lets say I want to combine Mint with Apple. I will first fill my bowl with whatever proportion I want of that flavor, so lets just say 25% of the bowl. Then I will fill the rest of the bowl up with Apple, the other 75%. Then I will dump my bowl of tobacco into a seperate mixing bowl that I will use to mix them up really good using my fingers. After they are nicely mixed, then I will re-fill my mixture into the bowl.Because I first poured my original flavors into the bowl in the right proportions, dumped them out, mixed them seperately and re-poured them back into my bowl, I didn't have any problems with overfilling the bowl, and I KNOW that they got mixed really well. Allia22
Y'know... I tried a bowl of straight mint to get the nasty taste of anise and plastic out of my pipe. Didn't work (Washed it, replaced hoses, works fine now)
gower
if you want to smoke some other combinations other than something with mint in it.... get some grape juice and fill up the base... and get some grape tobacco... tastes delicious... or if you want to stick with the mint... try mostly cherry with some lemon and a little bit of mint... yet again delicious... and if you want to add things to the base let me know how it goes with that combo... just that alone its good... maybe some ice cubes in the base
Apollo
if the stuff is getting harsh you might have too much heat, try a bit less heat and that should help, also if u put the mint more around the outside of the bowl, with the coal in the middle that might help as well. Purdue
I'm a big fan of Al-Waha Strawberry and Mint. I usually mix at about 5:1 ratio. There are two methods I use, depending on how minty I want it to be.If I really want to taste the mint, I put both shisha types in a small ~100g tub, then mix with my fingers. After I think its all mixed up, I close the tub and shake it around for a little bit. You can taste the mint, but its not prominent. For even less mint taste, if I'm feeling like a warm hookah as opposed to the cool one above, I'll take the mint and rub it around the bottom of my bowl. Then I leave it at the bottom. This tends to catch only hints of mint flavor every once in a while, and you can tell when your bowl starts to burn because the mint flavor increases.I'd assume these two methods would work for any combination, minus the ratios. Good luck with it

I only will use a very small amount. Like a gram to a bowl. few sprigs of the shisha. Unless you like mint. I like it but I like it to complement the flavor. Try to mix it up in the shisha too. This helps.Good luckSmiley

OPR234
I didn't read everyones reply very closely, but I didn't see anyone mention that a little bit of milk mixed with water in the base takes an edge off minty flavors, kinda smooths it out. It may be worth a shot
