Abyss From Hookah-shisha

Recommended Posts

Could it be your technique? Cause I've used many hookahs and never had an issue with producing thick, dense smoke. The only hookah I've heard does this is the Stargate lol. ANYWAYS... if I can get hella good smoke from a ''pumpkin''... you can from the Abyss. You plugging the other hoses TIGHTLY when you smoke? Are they auto-seal? Maybe they aren't sealing properly. Are you putting too much/too little water? Too much water and theres no room for smoke in the vase. Tell me how your setup is when you smoke.

The water is filled to about an inch above the bottom of the stem. The hoses and everything are sealed properly I check this part of the setup. They are auto seal but they are sealing up fine it's not a problem with that. Hookah's must be standard in their workings right, so there's not much room for error? This is why I think its a problem with the head.

The tobacco is filled so theres a small gap between the head and foil. Perhaps only one part of the head is being heated, since air comes in through all of it i'm getting a mixture of air and smoke, more so than with a smaller head. I'm gonna try using a head which has less width but more depth (won't match with the whole black theme of the abyss though heh).

Dont let there be any distance from the foil to the tobacco. Make it touching. And make sure the foil is down on there TIGHT. This seal is crucial... bad foil seal means BAD SMOKE. What coals are you using? I hear small pieces scattered works, but I use 1 33mm Quicklite and move it around as I'm smoking. If your foil isnt down tight, we found your problem. Oh, And NOT ALL HOOKAHS ARE CREATED EQUAL. smile.gif

i have an abyss, 2 hose version, and i get really thick smoke out of it. possible trouble spots i can see are the fitting where the shaft screws together and the top of the stem where it screws down as well. what i would do is set it up with your water but no bowl, and then plug the top with your finger and pull. if you can pull some air through then there is a leak somewhere. if it is airtight, then follow imageless' directions and see if that helps.

i used an old bowl from before i got the abyss, managed to get a better smoke than when i was using the newer bowl that came with the abyss whilst using less coals. win win. will just cover the whole thing in foil so it doesnt look stupid (if i get round to get caring)

problem solved!

seems a bit stupid that a bowl supplied in a hookah that cost me $120 doesn't stand up to one i got for under $10 from a local store. i think mod hookah's are not the way to go... smile.gif Edited by Monil

Hey, I'm new here. I have an Abyss that I bought from Hookah-Shisha.com a year ago, and I haven't gotten a consistantly good session out of it. The smoke will come with enough coals, but it tastes bad. It tastes chalky like coal/wood and I can't taste the shisha. Previously, I had a Pharoah Egyptian that would smoke gloriously every time. I was using golden quick light or Romann lemon wood coals with Romann shisha. Now, with the Abyss, I'm using Romann shisha (purchased in October) and Romann lemon wood coals (purchased a bag in October, but it was 'defective' and got new coals a few weeks ago). I'm not sure if its the hookah, shisha, or coals. I read a different thread where an owner of a 2-hose Abyss seemed to be having the same problem, and I believe he replaced the hose and it worked. But I don't have another hose that will fit. I haven't been using the hookah very often because of the taste, but I just washed it out with warm water and a pipe cleaner. I read about lemon juice, but haven't tried that yet. Any ideas?

After a bunch of work, I finally got it working decent enough. I cleaned the hose out for a long time with warm water and lemon juice and got a ton of crap out of it. I think that's what was giving it the chalkyness. I used this older Sultan shisha I found that was pretty juicy and it got good smoke. The Romann was kind of dry and didn't have much flavor left. Also, I burned the natural coal down further so it didn't taste like wood. Still not great, but I think I need some new/different coals and maybe a new hose. New shisha is already on order. So is one of Smiley's $15 hookahs.
