How To "setup" A Qt

Hello all.

As I've said in a couple other posts, I'm fairly new to hookah's, but have been lurking this site for the better part of 3-4 months.

I just placed an order for what I would call my first REAL hookah, a mya QT. What I mean by REAL, is that I had purchased a hookah back in november, and used that a couple of times, it was a total piece of crap. After it breaking on me countless times, and finally being ruined by an accident, I decided I wanted to get myself a good quality hookah, that was relatively small and stable to keep in my living room. I've always liked the QT's, and with the customhookah.com sale, had to get one.

My question would be, I see alot of comments throughout the site asking about "setup", and referring to how people have setup their hookahs. I was just wondering what exactly they were referring to. Also, if I could be pointed in the correct direction on getting maybe a "guide" on how to setup a Mya QT for max performance.

I searched around, and couldn't find a topic on this, but if I simply missed it, please post the link and MOD can lock the thread.

the qt is the same as all other hookahs. 1" above the stem, clean pipe, yadda yadda. there arent any special things to do.

LoL.. I'm sorry for not being specific. I guess what I mean is, is there certain things that should be done w/ a new hookah ? I mean, when I bought my first one, I just put it together like it was when I bought it, and smoked. Nothing special. For instance, you said "1" above the stem", I'm not sure what that means entirely. I would assume you are speaking about the water level... but I'm not sure. And you said "Clean pipe" so do I just clean it before using it the first time?

I know these may sound idiotic, but I truly am new to hookah, and am interested in simply doing things correctly and getting the most out of my smoking experience. I plan on having people over next weekend for a little get together, and am trying to make sure I impress. It's not easy getting my friends to try new things, and I really think they would enjoy hookah, if they just got over their stigma's.

yeah by 1" above the stem he means water level, i would clean it before using it the first time.. when i got mine i was so excited i just slapped the QT together and got her smokin.

You'll probably get it in all put together for the most part....

The downstem will screw into the bottom of the heart and the stem will then stab onto the vase.

One tricky thing you might encounter is making the bowl grommet force the ashplate into a seated position. until I replaced my bowl grommet with a white chinese grommet, it was rather floppy.

You may want to soak your stem afer every few smokes... the interior of the main stem is very porous and can be hard to get gunk out even when using a brush. Edited February 16, 2007 by Lakemonster

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I was so excited about my dark green QT for such a good price. I hope everything works out soon, cause I really want that QT NOW!!
