Sahara Smoke

Recommended Posts

I have never ordered from sahara smoke, nor do i plan (i get most of my stuff locally or free) but all I have to say is WOW. They have took advertisement to the next level. I am looking at my facebook and on the side where all the advertisements are there is a sign: Do you like to smoke hookah? And then there is a discount code for free shipping for ASU students. kind of crazy..

They don't seem to have any choice but to take advertisement to the next level as you point out -- popular opinion certainly isn't going to steer people towards their products. I haven't tried their shisha myself but I've only really heard bad things, as have most people...

Well, you go to the market....

Do keep in mind they are the sister company of Hookahookah.

Well, I gotta ask then... does hookahookah have as a bad reputation as Sahara Smoke?

from the last couple months of being on this forum i have heard mostly bad reviews. only a few people have actually liked it. I was looking at the hookah freak reviews (the new blend of hookahookah tobacco and new flavors) the other day and saw mixed reviews although it looks like more people enjoyed it than hookahookah.

I've never tried ordering anything from Hookah Hookah or Sahara Smoke. I think some of their stuff is rather nice looking but, I've never heard enough stuff to make we want to order. Besides that, theres been the several attempts of HH's on the forums that REALLY don't make me want to order.

I love the way their vases look. Scheetz has an awesome one, I think. They look amazing, but I've never had any experience with them.

Yup, I have one of their vases.

Anything on durability? I tend to break things all the time >.<

They are great vases, I have a tear drop shaped one in green with candy stripes. They are very thick glass, balanced well and sit flat. I have wondered about buying one of their hookahs. I have 3 vases and enough parts to build 2.5 hookahs. I just need another stem and I am good to go. So I am tempted to order a stem from Hookah Hub which is where I bought my vase from. They distribute Hookah Hookah products only but they have cheaper prices.

The only difference with my vase is the green is darker. More of a forest green than a lime.

Macho: i think we have resolved that issue and I've noticed it hasn't happened since, which i find a good sign. You may not want to order from them, and that's cool. But the official rep from sahara/HH gave us the lo down, and sinc eit hasn't happened since i'm tending to believe him.

Anyone have one of their hookahs? They're gorgeous, but I wouldn't want to buy something crappy.

I actually have their 'Legend' in red, which I am very satisfied with ( smokes well, feels durable). From what ive seen as far as reviews etc. I've seen a tendency towards negative comments (I didnt see these reviews until after I ordered, otherwise I probably wouldn't have). but as far as my personal (one time customer) experience goes, I'm satisfied, they sell a pretty good product.

I have been dealing with many types of hookah products and there is always something funny with products made in the US. I wish it wasn't true, cause it is cheaper to get US products, but the tobacco grown here does not mix well with honey or molasses..... angry.gif Anyway, hookah hookah and sahara do so well with advertising....and their packaging is cool. other than that....stick to the imports.

The local head shop in Clifton on short Vine started carrying some new hookah merch and I went down to check it out. Low and behold, someone placed in giant orders with SaharaSmoke because they had around 30 hookahs with SS carrying cases stacked up in the rear corner of the room. After examining the hookahs in detail by taking them completely apart with the permission of the shop owner, I found most of the stems to be made out of very light-weight high polished material. A few of the different sized stems had some pretty interesting patterns cast or cut into them and they seemed sturdy enough, but definitely not something you could pass on to the grandkids in the twilight of your life. The vases were awesome, though and seemed very thick. They looked just as good in person as on the website.

I was unfortunate enough to have purchased a hookah from the Sahara Smoke Company. This is my third hookah i have purchased, the other two being a pumpkin mini hookah and a 32" Egyptian style hookah that i got in dubai for $20 US. I wanted something different from the traditional hookah style and i was drawn to the vase of the 19" Sahara Vase - Polka Dot Hookah. I figured a medium size hookah would hit better than the pumpkin (which can hit harsh at times because it is so picky about how much water you put in the vase) but be more portable than my 32" hookah. Upon arrival to my house i was instantly disappointed to find out that the bowl that came with the hookah was actually too small to fit on the hookah and it would pop off right after I tried to put it on, luckily i had 3 other bowls lying around the house to replace it with. The tongs were the cheapest piece of metal i have ever felt and bent when i clasped them around a coal. The vase grommet was a really cheap rubber that slides up the stem when you put the stem into the vase. Another problem is the stem is about 1/2 inch to 1 inch shorter than it should be. The stem is 6 inches long and the vase is 8 inches high, but b/c of the unique shape of the vase, you are only left with about 5" inch tall 1-1/2 inch cylindrical tube that fills up with smoke (this is illustrated in the pictures i uploaded). I have smoked this hookah about 10 times now and the "stainless steel" stem is already corroding. Because of these problem i am looking for a new stem to be purchased that is stainless steel, has a 6-1/2 to 7 inch downstem and will fit into the 1-1/2 inch diameter opening of the vase.

The vase is actually REALLY sturdy. The glass is really thick and i have no fear of it cracking.

With a little work i have been able to get the hookah to smoke decent. The thickness of the smoke is about comparable to my pumpkin hookah, but it has yet to hit harsh. If i can find a decent stem this hookah will be a decent "frankenstein" hookah, but will have cost me over $100.

Pros:
Sturdy Vase
Nice Carrying Bag
Long Washable Hose

Cons:

Horrible Grommets
Bowl didn't fit
Cleaning Brushes were flattened and have yet to poof out to be able to be used
Downstem too short
Ash tray does not have a securing system and rattles when you move the hookah

Overall Rating: 3/10

Shows the hookah where the water level should be filled to if the downstem was long enough.

[attachment=204:DSCN0735.JPG]

Shows the point where you actually have to fill the vase too (this is without the crappy rubber grommet so it might need to be about and 1/4 on an inch higher)

ive bought a hookah and shisha from hookahhookah and ive been more than happy. well built and most of the shisha tasted good and burned nicely. the hose for the hookah and the ash tray are the only downsides. the hose is leaky and the ashtray rattles when i smoke or do anything with it.

the stem on that hookah looks fine, trust me, if there was anymore airspace it wouldnt hit right. recently i have been experimenting with a home made hookah and i have the capability to make the stem long enough to have a rediculous amount of airspace. The hookah itself turns milky white but there is too much air and i dont get as good as of a hit when i shorten up the stem. I think the whole purpose to hookahs deigned like your is so they don't tip over, it probably weighs a ton with the water like that.

Yes the base is extremely heavy after you fill it with water and i don't have to worry about it tipping. Next time i setup the hookah for actually smoking it I will take pictures of where the water has to be filled to make the stem be submerged about 1" into the water, because i don't think my pictures accurately represent the water level. In addition i have tested that stem in my friends medium egyptian style vase and it hit really well (with more air space than if filled in my vase) which is why i feel that the stem is too short.

Maybe i just got a bad stem or something but even if you look on sahara smoke's website it looks longer in the picture than it does on my hookah.

is the downstem wider than your friends downstem on the egyptain, i noticed this on the new hookah i jus got. the downstem doesnt go down to far but it is much wider and hits very nice. plus your stem is longer than your mini so more smoke is jus sitting there.. if you arent gettin enough smoke and it is harsh it isnt becuase of the water levels it is something you are doing to the tobacco

i said earlier it has never hit harsh, the problem is b/c you have to fill the water so high b/c the downstem is too short, there isn't much airspace left for smoke to build up, thus thinner smoke.

My complaint is the downstem is about half and inch to an inch too short, if it was longer the water would not have to be filled so high for the downstem to be submerged 1 inch into the water. As it is right now the water has to be filled to where the vase starts widening.

I am going to look into getting a new stem from social smoking, b/c i like quality of their hookahs, plus the ashtrays sit firm on the stem.

and as i said before i will take pictures of where the water level is when i actually smoke it next time. Because i didn't do the best job with the quick pictures i took earlier.

i understand what you are trying to say but there are hookah's out there that have little to no airspace and hit like a champ, smileys 15 dollar hookah kit being one of them. There are plenty members on the forum that can vouge for this..

I am not trying to defend saharo smoke considering I will probably never buy a hookah from there but maybe just maybe you should try setting up your bowls different ways, work on your heat management, and practice using different brands of shisha before you decide to to claim this hookah as complete shit. If you are getting minimal amounts of smoke than you might want to look into putting more coals on the shisha becuase it sounds like you are not gettin sufficient heat.

HookahHookah Shisha is worthless. It burns too quickly and it has little to no taste.

I have owned 2 Sahara smoke hookahs and they are good for newbies, but there usually alot more restrictive than a good KM, Egyptian or Authentic Middle Eastern style hookah. Plus they have a tendancy to rust. Can't wait till Thursday when my Nammor Hookah arrives :D
