benmandude
Hey guys. I have been smoking a hookah in bars for a about 2 months now and I decided to buy my own. I got a 22" Nile from Hookah-shisha. I am having problems though.I can't seem to get thick smoke out of this thing. I sprinkle shisha in the bowl and then lightly pack it down and then cover the top with two layers of foil. I poke two rings of holes in the foil. I have tried 1 and 2 coals. With 1 it doesnt smoke, with 2 it burns and gets harsh and still doesnt smoke. Please can some one help me.
billy
Have you tried with 1 layer of foil?
hmpitags2006
You need to try more holes unless you are using a phunnel bowl. What kind of shisha and coals are you using? What is the rest of your setup like? Is your aluminum heavy duty or not?
benmandude
Im using golden coals and romman mango and raspberry, with 2 layers of normal tin foil.
hmpitags2006
What is your coal placement like? What I do is put a little too much coals on and when it starts to get harsh I pull some coals off and then I am in the zone. I have no exp with those coals so they might be the reason why you aren't getting a ton of smoke. Also I would just go with one layer of foil. DizzyGuy
Try more tobacco, 1 layer of foil *if you don't think that's enough, do like I do and get heavy duty...*, more holes. How far above the down stem is your water level?
benmandude
I got a little better results using a screen, 2 coals and a little less shisha. I guess i just need to keep experimenting untill i get it down.
SafeSearchOff
what I've found to work well is start it off with 1 or 2, but as it starts really picking up heat break up a coal and only use half... then add it back later as the coals diminish
KillZedKill
Definately use more holes, we usually cover the whole foil with them when we smoke, but im getting the Ultimate combo bowl off of hookah-shisha, so nore more foil!
Hamilton
Check for stems, if you're packing the bowl with a lot of larger pieces of stems you wont be getting a good smoke. another is you're probably packing too little tobacco. In my experience if you don't pack enough shisha you wont get a thick smoke without a ton of heat. and if you give it enough heat you'll be coughing. Try not "sprinkling" it in and just pull up a couple blobs and pack them in with your fore finger and thumb, pack it just tight enough that its below the rim of the bowl then cover it with a piece of foil and make sure you pull it tight, poke some holes, throw a bit too much charcoal on for the first two puffs to get it running then lower the heat and you're good. Scheetz
the tobacco should really be blobbed and packed instead of sprinkled. 1 layer of foil and place 2 coals stacked on top of each other. For hole placement make 3 rings starting from the outside and work your way in. Then make a + in the middle of the smallest circle.Try placing the coals on a side of the bowl instead of the middle. As you smoke move it around. Also if 2 coals stacked is to much heat, then break 1 in half so you have 1.5 coals on your bowl.
art_official
could try breaking up the coals, thats how i get away with using one at a time on my 36inch egyptian one layer of foila million randomly placed holesand you should be setalso why your pulling try listening for a leak, you may be doingevery thing right but if you got a leak, your not gonna be gettin much smoke
benmandude
Thanks for all the tips guys. They are really helpful.I checked for leaks. I seem to have a leak somewhere between the bowl and the stem. My gormmet must not work to well. I wrapped some tape around it and that fixed it for the most part. I went threw all my shisha, so Im going to pick up a tub tomorrow and then eventually order some from steve.I really appreciate all the help guys. Thank you so much. McDarragh
yeah leaks sound to be the problem, if it feels like oyu are pulling way to hard for too little reward thats your problem, i had the same problem with my small egyptian, i ended up 'skinning' some of my hose to reveal a few holes - taped them up - good as new. Also make sure your bowl is getting a good seal from the rubber stopper cause thats usually where it would leak. Bodgy bowls make goddamn airholes
Hamilton
Yeah, a leak can also do that. For awhile I was using foil for all my seals and I was getting frusterated by thin smoke and constant burning. Buy a couple of seals, one for the bowl, one for the hose (I find the mya hose seals work best. I prefer standard bowl sealers though) if you can't get them easily try making one out of tin foil and then wrap a wet napkin around it. Those create decent seals. SAEPhoenix
I just wanted to add to this thread because people kept suggesting tons of holes in the foil. In my experience, and from what many people have said in other threads, it is not about the amount of holes in the foil, but rather having good airflow. Making sure the shisha isn't packed too tight, and blowing into the bowl to make sure there is good air flow seems to equate to a good smoke for me.
