Apple Bowl?

Recommended Posts

There's a hookah lounge close to where I live that only uses apples for bowls. They smoke pretty well for 1.5-2 hours, mostly depending on how fast the coal guy moves around. When I noticed it, I asked the owner, but he wouldn't tell me anything. So, after I was done, I dissected it to see what they did.

Basically, they cored the apple and sliced the top off. There wasn't really a "bowl" the shisha was just on the top flat part of the apple and foil put directly squished on top. There looked to be about 15g up there. The foil had toothpick holes all over, but was even slightly bowing outward. The shisha didn't burn or anything, and lasted quite a while. Probably because the juices from the apple were drawn up to keep the shisha moist? Anyone ever done this? I tried a few times, but couldn't get it right, and it was more of a hassle.

I do it every once in a while, and it works great. First, cut a tiny bit off the bottom of the apple so its flat, then cut the rounded top part off so its flat. Then, I use a melon baller to scoop out room for like 20 grams of shisha. Press the apple down on the shaft and use the foil poker to poke holes from the apple down the stem. Put a foil on tight, and smoke away. The shisha stays moist and lasts a long time, and you really can taste it.

umm ive never done it personally but ive wanted to try it... at a hookah bar around here they've used oranges before... i think you have to lay something down or have something in the stem of the hookah to prevent it from falling all the way down into the water... but i also notice there was toothpicks through the orange on the sides,if that makes any sense, acting as something to stop the shisha from falling or something like that... it was on the news last night... they did a report on how bad hookah was for kids and that we all knew about it and they basically just smack talked hookah for like 25 mins...

I was thinking you go about it all intricate-like and make the inside of the apple bowl look as close as possible to a clay bowl laugh.gif

We have Wolf River apples growing on our property... They get HUGE, bigger than a large grapefruit. I MUST try this next fall!

Really nice bowl Yash...

Is it completely full of tobacco, or is there something in there limiting how full it can get?

Nah we just took that swiss army knife and carved out a crater. Doesn't even go below the waist of the orange. It worked ok, but it really wasn't worth the time and mess.

Not exactly a apple bowl, but it is a fruit happy.gif

I always seem to bust these pictures out at least once per week. People need to start using the search engine more...

Sorry, upon further searching, I did find this topic and pics of yours from May '05, September '05, and October '06. I didn't go that far back in previous searches. tongue.gif

The Orange bowl looks pretty awesome. I'm going to try doing the apple again, but it does seem like more work than it's worth.
