Ok I'm guessing this is a completely new experience for everyone here and I thought it was so rediculous I just had to tell everyone.

So I'm chilling in my room smoking and playing guitar and it started to get hot (fan off so ashes don't blow.) I did the logical thing and opened the window to cool off a bit. About thirty minutes later I hear a knock at the door. It's the popo patrol. I'm thinking crap what the hell did I do. He proceeds to explain to me that the police department had received a notice of "suspicious activity." I cleared the issue up with no problems after explaining everything, but is that rediculous or am I over reacting?

Yes I did. I was told that it was annonymous but the officer said he would personally pay them a visit to clear up the issue.

As with all smoking laws, depends on which state you live in.

Well, I'm assuming that it's different in every state, but here in Texas a cop isn't allowed to come into your house without valid warrant. I let him in because I wanted to clear everything up. No idea check or anything but I'm pretty sure you could still get busted even though it's your house. I could be wrong though so if there are any legal buffs here, feel free to set me straight.

definitly not in the states, or at least in florida. The see a minor smoking on their property, they'll get their d.l taken away, and have a court date, ticket and a fine.

i love popo, i was smokeing in a gazibo in the park with some friends one summer evening, and the popo came because someone said there was suspicieus activity. Turned out to be one of my friends fathers and he sat and talked with us. Cleared it up no problem

Depends on the state. Some states *although it's becoming fewer* you can smoke, but not buy. I think that has changed now in Bama but there is probably another state with that still.

That's how it is here in Massachusetts. Minors aren't supposed to buy tobacco, but they can legally smoke it all they want.

Someone else had this happen to them like a year ago. I cant remember who it was, but I remember the cop claiming it was pot and trying to arrest him.


I wouldn't worry about it. I live beside 3 cops, they have a triangle around me. My neighbors on each side plus behind me. I smoke on my deck when its nice out and talked with them about it so they knew what I was doing. They all knew about hookahs, but one of them had just heard about them for the first time like 2 weeks before I talked with him.

There are states like this. I also believe New York does this. Or maybe they used to and not anymore. Someone else said Mass.

I've always worried about cops, because around here they are rather nasty...I'd love to take my hookah to our park, but the one I use for travel is only 8 inches tall, and admittedly looks VERY bongish.

Same here in PA. I never smoked as a minor, hell I never smoked anything until I smoked a hookah for the first time (though I was of age by then), but I remember as a teen having a lot of friends who smoked, and naturally as teenagers they got in trouble with the cops here and there and I've been around a few times when it's happened (though thankfully I wasn't involved haha) but I've had cops pat my friends down and find cigs, cigars, and chewing tobacco and none of them confiscated it or ticketed them, they just simply said "you really shouldn't be smoking, it's unhealthy" and that was that.

The way it is here is if you're under 18 you can't buy tobacco, but minors can use tobacco products... makes no sense but hey, not many laws do anymore.

I haven't had any problems with cops so far, but I'm friends with a few local police.

Just a side thought though. I'm a senior in high school and I have always wanted to buy some herbal shisha and smoke hookah at school. As far as I know the school has a no tobacco policy, but they have no rules against smoking. I just thought it would be funny.

I know in that in Jersey at least it isn't illegeal to smoke under age... just to buy.

I've been cought by caughts a few times in public places with my hookah. Just clear it up and they are chill about it. They actually laugh and wonder why I have all this machinary to smoke tobacco hahaha.

The key is to be straight up because clowns don't understand the difference between a bong and a hookah.... and show them the shisha.

Its almost expected to happen. Until mainstream America realizes we dont smoke anything illegal out of a hookah, and they stop associating it with bongs, then this will stop. But for now its the price we pay.

I personally never cared, me and my friends used to smoke out at a public park, and never had the cops called on us. The only time i had to deal with it, was right after i got my first hookah, i was sitting out on my front porch swing, enjoying some mint, and then a popo rolls up, flashing lights, and does the siren one quick time. I take another puff. He walks up, starts talking to me, asking me all kinds of questions.

Seems someone saw me pack the bowl, and the baccy was dark green havana mint So it kinda stuck out to most people, as a certain other thing, even though it was drenched, it still looked like pot i guess. So i ended up talking with the cop, showing him my, at the time, small stash, and even let him take a few puffs. I ended up taking him to a local hookah bar, and last i heard he was really into it Havent had a problem since. I still get a few stares from parents taking kids home from school, since i live on the first street after a major middle school

The one thing I'm really interested in seeing or doing is taking a hookah into like a diner where there is a smoking section....

I wish diners and places in Jersey were allowed to have smoke again... I want to see people's faces hahaha.


I'm stoked to go outside in the warm weather at a park right at a table and smoke... I bet I will get really really weird looks from adults.

Been there, done that. Did it at two places, first was Macaroni Grill, they didnt care. Next was Dennys, they did. For some reason that surprised me who cared and who didnt XD
