About The Buzz...

Recommended Posts

hey guys I am sort of noob (I have smoked hookah for about 6 months now, but only in hookah bars ) I had purchased not too long ago a mini hookah and I bought some al waha orange, mango, and mixed fruit for it...needless to say I was very dissappointed because it didnt give me the buzz I got from smoking at the hookah bar. At first I thought it may be the quantity i was putting in the bowl, or maybe the size of the actual hookah...could this be true?? Anyway I have recently just ordered a much larger (28 inch) two hose hookah with an ice chamber (sooo excited!!!) I guess what my real question is...is what kind of shisha do y'all recommend for someone like me (noob) that tastes good and gives a significant buzz. Also what does it mean when the tobacco is "washed"? Which brands are and which brands are not?

Some advice would be greatly appreciated!!! wink.gif

It has nothing to do with the size of the hookah, for a good buz I would say buy some nakhla or some tangiers. The lounge you goto proally uses nakhla, it is the most common found massal used by hookah bars. Or just go there and ask them what they use

See what your lounge uses... but AW generally gives people a buzz of some sort and maybe it's just, no offense, the set up? I mean, different flavors in different brands can strangely give different levels of buzz too

WELCOME to the forum! Al Waha should give you a "significant buzz." I have lots of it and it aways gets me buzzed. But everyone is different. Washed tobacco is just that, washed in water to draw off some of the nicotine. Washed tobacco can be identified as having .05 percent nicotine. Regular unwashed ranges between .3 and .5 percent. Al Waha is unwashed.

The hookah bar may have served you Naklah, which is unwashed and has a reliably strong buzz. Not the best tobacco, but some of their flavors are good. I've heard good things and been pretty impressed with their melon and peach.

If you have a desire to broaden your shisha horizons, I'd suggest MNHookah for a selection of Tangiers and Smiley's tobacco. These are boutique brands, kind of like the shisha equivalent to a microbrew. Both of these are made by trusted forum members and are very worthwhile from both the flavor and buzz perspective.

Hope you find this helpful, and again, welcome to the forum. tongue.gif

you may have grown a tolerance to tobacco. Al waha does not give me a buzz at all. Just the other night I smoked some after nine for two hours and I had a hookah to myself and didnt feel the slightest inclination of a buzzz. Try some tangiers, that should be a kick in the ass for ya and it tastes good. God I love that stuff..

Hey, I just bought some al waha yesterday and on the bottom of all the packages it says 0.05% nicotine, so how could it be unwashed? Just thought I'd point that out since I just saw it yesterday and was like "wha?" when reading this haha.

But yes, the only significant buzz I've had was from Nakhlah, but the flavor wasn't too great so I'll go with other brands instead

buzz varies from person to person. al-waha gives me a slight buzz. but so does starbuzz, and nakhla knocks me off my feet. all I can say is start experimenting with different brands to find what you enjoy. read the review section on all the different tobaccos and see what gives most people a bigger buzz. personally, if I were you, I would NOT try tangiers if you are still having trouble with your set-up. It is by far the most difficult tobacco to smoke and has a real "tobacco" after-taste to it. It is definitely not for everyone.

take your al-waha sprinkle it in your bowl (pull the pieces apart) so its nice and loose and leave about 1/8 of an inch gap from the top of the tobacco to the foil. The airspace will help you not burn your tobacco and as you get better at it you can fill it up to the top. But heat management is one of the biggest keys in a prime smoke. put about 3-4 rings of medium holes (not toothpick but like the size of the poker that comes on some tongs, like twice the size of a toothpick hole). and if you are using quicklites make sure they are completely red and ashed over. Also, if you haven't already, try regular natural coals. These are what a lot of hookah lounges use. also make sure that in the base where the water goes that thee water is about an inch to an inch and a half over the bottom of the stem. too little water could make it a little more harsh, and too much you can get water in your hose and not very big hits. The last tip I have for you is to make sure everything is sealed. The stem to the base, the hose to the stem, the purge valve closed, and a good fitting grommet for the bowl.

good luck,
matt
