GordonMac
Today I smoked the ol hookah and it wasn't a good one.... It was somewhat harsh and the thick smoke didn't last long at all. What must I do? The first bowl I put a little amount of shisha in, the second was medium, and last was a lot in the bowl. Im thinking that i perhaps put too much water in the base. Could that be a problem that would cause harshness?
ShishaFred
There's a good chance the harshness is caused by burning tobacco. Now there can be some reasons for that :1) Too much heat on one spot2) Too much tobacco , it,s touching the screen , thus the coal , so it burnsIt's usually too much heat from coals , so i,d suggest trying with less coal , or spacing them out on the head. GordonMac
Yes I think you are right, but when I remove a coal, the smoke is less... How do i fix that?

hookah hippie
harshness usually comes from the tobacco burning use less coals

Allia22
I've found fewer holes to do the trick... Also using two layers of foil does wonders for the flavor, IMO. I think it needs to be (re)stated that not all hookahs smoke the same, and description of your setup is important. I've got a 21" 2 hose, what are you working with? billy
From what I heard : using milk instead of water makes the smoke thicker..
AndrewM
I have the same problem got a nice hookah with 70 inch hoses and i use the right ammount of water double wrap the foil evenly space the coals, and even when its not hitting harsh i get weak smoke even when i take monster hits. then after only 20 minutes i gets harsh and rips me up. theres plenty of shisha left in the bowl and its not burning from overheating... i try tapping the ash off my coals in the tray and to no avail it dosnt hit well. no big milk. i need advice... or maybe just a better hookah
Allia22
Ok, to both of you, the big question: what brand, type, number of coals are you using? I personally can only help you with two brands of disc QLs, but others have lotsa experience with the other kinds.
AndrewM
alright just so you know EXACTLY what im dealing with here... ive got a standard 5 hole white ceramic bowl just like 90% of the other hookahs out there. and the pictures will say the rest.http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v648/MrBoston/Hookah/go there to see them because all of a sudden Hookah Forum wont let me post any more pictures.. it let me post ONE yesterday... and i went back to do it the same way today and get. Sorry, dynamic pages in the [IMG] tags are not allowedwtf?
hookaheveryday
Keep those coals out of the center and poke larger holes. Either break up those quicklites or let them hang off the side a little bit.
Allia22
Yeah, I don't poke nearly as many holes or use a pin. I use the blunt spike that came on my tongs and poke around 15-20. I don't have experience with Diamante coals, but like H-E said, try to keep them hanging off the edge as far as you feel is safe. If it's still harsh with 2 coals, take one off for a little bit to let your bowl recover.
