Recommended Posts

So seeing how hookah tends to stir up interesting conversation- thought I would watch the special on iscovery channel about the Lost Tomb of Jesus and enjoy a wonderful bowl of watermelon shisha. Anyone else going to be doing something similar?

Saw some of it earlier.

I'm a tad too Jewish to really care to watch though

No offense, but what does being Jewish have to do with watching the film? The creator of the film is Jewish. It also effects how some people see jesus. Also you get to see Eretz Yisrael, which is such an important place to many Jews. I can understand what you mean though since our theology conflict with christian theology, and because of that, many Jews do not worry about christian theology. Edited by JoeLipinski

Me being Jewish makes me generally uninterested in all things Jesus. Nothing against him or his religion, but it just isn't something I'm interested in.

In the end this "discovery" isn't gonna change my life.

No offense, really.

Ah, but you are forgetting Jesus was a Jew Himself, and therefore a part of your rich heritage and history too, regardless of what Christianity says about Him or not.

Well, if he wasn't the Messiah (which jews don't think he was), then he's about as important to their rich heritage and history as I am (being a jew myself, and not being the messiah).

The purpose was not to create a debate about the importance of Jesus. It was simply something to throw out there to see how people were enjoying their hookah. I think Jewish or not, it can be said that the implications would be important because of the far reaching effects it would have on the world around you. You may not be Christian, but there are millions of others who are. It would indirectly affect you because it could affect millions.

That said- was more to be a thread for enjoying a delicious hookah and some intellectual food as well. Broadening your mind, and learning new things is NEVER a bad thing regardless of personal beliefs

Ok, here's the last wave of my penis. Sorry girls rolleyes.gif. Even if you don't believe Jesus was the Messiah (which would put you in the company of many, many people), it is impossible to deny his influence on the world philosophically, and from a moral and ethical standpoint. His teachings were really the first of their kind as far as the treatment of other human beings (love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, and so on, and so on). To ignore his role and influence on all humanist tradtition, just because you do not label him as the Messiah as others do, is silly. I'm Greek, and I'm sure that many people in ancient Greece believed all kinds of wierd things about the ancient philosophers of the time (Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, etc, etc, etc). Would I ever say that I did not hold Aristotle very important because I do not believe he was practicing wizardry (like some might have believed), or because I didn't believe the same things he did? No, because again, that would be silly.

I'm not trying to dump on anybody here, it just bugs me how quick people are to accept or dismiss the importance of Jesus, for example, based on their faith (which is a very rickety thing to use in support of ANY argument). I'm not going to deny the importance of Mohammed just because I'm not a Muslim, or Buddha because I am not a Buddhist.

Now back to smoking hookah. biggrin.gif

+1

I'm atheist and I regularly enjoy programs about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and others.
It kinda makes you realize how differently the people around you can live their lives.

i'll give another +1 to that. now to get back on topic. i dont smoke my hookah inside as one of my roommies doesnt like it so i smoke out on the back porch and listened to the sounds of the night.
