AndrewM
so ive been using the same charcoal for weeks, Diamente charcoals, bag after bag they break easy and light fine and burn hot.now tonight i crack open a fresh bag, these things EXPLODE one after the next just pop and explode till theres nothing left.. coal after coal bag after bag over 50 coals wasted just crumble explode and pop... the carpet is burning the windowsills on fire, its a mess.. but im not giving up, i go to the NEXT BAG, these ones arent exploding... the fizz and lite...but then most of the outside black cover stays the coals dong go gray they stay black and chunky on the outside... no good heat no good burning... its pissing me off... ive been using these coals no problem and now its a freakin mess...anyone else had this problem... and ide also like to be pointed in the direction of good coals i can get hot off a standard gas stove..tonight is not happy hookah times. nuschultz
If you need quicklights, i suggest 3Kings or Goldens. For naturals, or japanese coals, I suggest Nour Fingers
AndrewM
Alright thats all fine and good but WHAT would cause them to explode like this???EDIT: Also some sites on where i can get said coals Edited March 7, 2007 by AndrewM
nuschultz
could be a bad batch of coals... could be an expanding air pocket (more unlikely in quicklights), could be any of a number of things
kornkitten42
i had some 3k explode on me. They snapped crackled popped and then blam! the coal exploded all over my carpet.. i was pissed. it did it through almost an entire box of 3k , never happened again, but i was very angry never the less... so i broke them into really small pieces and that seemed to save the coals and keep them usablegood luck, probably just a bad batch..... Luke69
Jesus you kept trying to light the next bag after the first one exploded and almost burnt your house down. I commend you, never let anything get in the way of smokin some hookah!
AndrewM
7 bags in a row now... my window sill is crapped out my carpets f**ked, and im not giving up... they all explode no matter how small i break em or how carefully i light them they just immediately pop and crap out on me.so i want to know what everyones been using for coal all the time with no problems
McDarragh
Has to be air pockets in the coal.... I've had a few snap, pop and spit chunks as well but that was 100% charcoal i was using.
ASUSEAN1
maybe the coals got wet, and then dried back up before they got into your hands. i have had a problem before, accidently getting my coals wet and after letting them dry they either exploded or didnt burn right. KillZedKill
Last night my buddy had one of his coals do this, had to cut up and pull and wash the spots in his carpet. Its either air pockets, or large bits of the quick light chemicals on spots of the coal.
jimmy
I have had this happen with Diamante but not the whole bag just a random finger or two. I would recommend Nour by far over Diamante they don't ash everywhere like the Diamante. Also for me I had trouble breaking Diamante which I dont with Nour. DownZero
GET RID OF THE COALS QUICK! A friend of mine has those coals and boy do I hate them. I was lighting one, and waiting for the coal to completly light and it just broke and fell all over the floor. Not only that but the sparks sting a lot more when/if they hit you, very annoying. I only use 3Kings and will stick to them.
mazultav
Hey Andyman, just to let you know I just recently started smoking and Ive gone through 2 boxes of 3 kings, never had a explosion. Some spurts of sparks but nothing violent, just another option.

I have never had a problem like that before.
AndrewM
well ide like to use natural lights at home, and i got the bag of Nour wood coals or whatever. but as for when im out in public or traveling i want easy lights so that would prolly be the 3 kings. Hamilton
try out eagle coals. They're 40mm, light quickly and burn very nicely.
AndrewM
yeah im actually going to be buying a rediculous ammount of coals both natural and quick light... try then all out and hopefully post something with a rating on all of em that way people have a good base to go off of when choosing a coal cause thats what i would have liked to have at my disposal
camelflage
i go through a bag of fingered charcoals in about a month, so around 28 sessions.
GThookah
i was lighting up my hookah tonight and i was using 3Kings charcoal. when i lit it a spot on the charcoal erupted in a jet of fire and smoke. I nearly dropped it, but that is the craziest thing that has happened to me. Exploding coals... freaky stuff man

gower
ive had that problem with 3k coals... i was blowing on the coal once i lit it up and it blew up all over my friend... it was pretty bad... then the next one did it a little bit and burned the table and carpet... my friends mom was mad... it was not good... but my advice is get 3k coals... their pretty reliable... and try the 40mm ones we had a few awesome sessions with those...
