Online Or Local Shop?

Recommended Posts

Might as well launch a question with my first post...

Do you guys prefer to order stuff online or go to a nearby smoke shop?

I personally love visiting smoke shops. You could even find all sorts of stuff unrelated to tobacco. Throwing knives, nunchucks, imitation swords...figurines of Merlin and etc... laugh.gif Besides, the closest smoke shop is within walking distance for me--they sell Layalina, Al Fakher, and 3 Kings Coals--it's all I really need.

How about you guys?

Online pretty much exclusively. I found a cigar shop about 25 mi. away that sells 250g tubs of Pharaoh's, but no coals. It was hilarious, they had a piece of paper taped to a shelf that said "HOOKAH TOBACCO" and about 5 tubs of 2 year old shisha sitting there. The other hookah kids must all go to the University on the rich side of town... dry.gif

i would prefer to go to my local shop and get instant gratification even if it is a couple bucks more.... but right now, they aren't catering to my needs and have been pissing me off. so in turn they haven't been getting my business....

(90% of the stuff i like is out of stock, and they keep saying they are going to order it and oh they just ran out ect, and have been doing this bs for the last few months....... )

For big orders, online, but when I need to be clandestine (my mom bitches about every withdrawal from my debit card), or when I need a quick something, I'll go local.

oh to the OP:

I now live next to hookah capital of America.... yes, Berkeley.

If I go down telegraph there are like 9 shops within walking distance that all sell shisha and hookahs. Everyonce and awhile I like to go just to absorb the atmosphere there.

Since customhookahs went out of business, there is only one shop I know of that sells my beloved Pharohs Exotic Peach. Every few months I pay a visit and pay their stupid high prices, but its worth it. Otherwise, I'll shop online. My tobacco is cheaper, fresher, and I get better selection.

I enjoy shopping locally. There are two international grocery stores here in SA that I visit quite a bit, just to see what they have. I gladly buy locally but just like any business, they don't always have what your looking for. Thats when you turn to the internet. But if I'm shopping for a hookah, I go online. Hookahs tend to be overpriced in local shops.. if they are in price range, they aren't very appealing to the eye.

Online 90%.

However i am in the shisha tobacco exile known as the uk.

Choice is a joke : Al Fakhir ($60 for 250g ohmy.gif ) Nahkla (which is allways old and dry)
or that 'herbal' much Soex. High-life herbal which is a uk produced herbal much (even worse than soex)

So online is amazing.

Well for hookahs I'll go online, better selection, and probably better quality.

As for shisha and coals I've only bought from 2 shops locally, the coals are a bit pricey but the shisha is the same price as online so for conveniences sake I just go to a local shop. However I am limited to Al Waha, 1 flavor of Layalina, a couple Havana, Nakhla, and this weird brand called Fantasia...that makes a NASTY pina colada flavor (not sure if its the brand or flavor but it was horrible).

I now prefer to buy online. I am typically die hard about buying locally. I have a couple of hobbies that depend on local customer participation as they are nitche retail stores.

however, without exception, it is a far better deal economically to buy online than from a local vender. Even with shipping I've found most of the time I get a better deal. Local vendors have not (with one exception - Howards Hollywood Hangout in Palm Springs, CA) had any reasonable customer service and usually have stock problems. Even when developing a customer "relationship" with smoke shops, purchasing from them has always been a problem if some of the product had gone bad or was defective, barring the previously mentioned. Now if you are smoking at thier shop that is a different story.

Online however, has been different all together. While this may be true of only some online retailers, all the ones I've had dealings with have been very good. Many people have posted how certain online retailers were more than happy to fix a problem with the product, even when it wasn't thier fault... You know who you are.
